I have not seen this race since the original broadcast back in 1976. I always wanted to see ABC make that available. Those were some great slow motion scenes of the cars powering off the turn.

I remember how excited I was that an outlaw had beaten USAC at one of their premier races.

Wasn't that the race when ABC cut away to the Kentucky Derby?

Opp in his prime...it just doesn't get any better than that!

Remarkable piece of film. I used to have this on 8mm reel from Dick Wallen.

I recall hearing a story that Pancho Carter (#4) was so pissed that Opp beat him, he kicked the injector stacks clean off his car!!

A classic for sure!

Brings back great memories of "back in the day!"

We hear a lot of griping about front row winners now . . . . . maybe we have romantisized the good old

days. Oh well, it's still the most exciting sport around!

Right Porsche Pete. Those were the days that they showed the Kentucky Derby and the Hulman Classice from Terre Haute... on Wide World of Sports. Gotta love the good ole days. I remember once they had some great slow motion of Pancho Carter at Terre Haute. And yes - Opperman showed the "big boys" how to "git 'er done".

(Note - I started out saying Wild World of Sports - but that was from the movie "Groove Tube" - and didn't have anything to do with racing.)
