I was happy to see that Knoxville modified the rules for the Master's Classic. After last year's BoreFest, I was happy to see the change and look forward to "Actual" Masters hitting the track.
As I mentioned in my February column "Butts in the Bleachers" I would like to see Knoxville do something for the their Saturday night regulars during the Nationals. I think they should provide some booth space at a reduced rate, so that regular Saturday night teams could sell their T-shirts. The every weekend supporter of Knoxville can't afford the prices that are charged to other vendors. I have even suggested that if they could provide one booth space the teams could schedule themselves into the space. I admit I don't know all the rules and regulations that the Outlaws impose regarding sells, but I think it would give the regular at least a chance to petal their wares. I would even volunteer to organize this event.
As always the opinions are mine..You may contact me at [email protected]

why are the outlaws imposing selling rules and regulations at a knoxville event? the nationals are an open event put on by the knoxville raceway. knoxville raceway should be able to have a say in what is or is not allowed at their event.
to indy and beyond!!

Not this year.
Not saying I disagree with your argument though.

As long as these teams were selling THEIR merchandise (t-shirts, hats, whatever), and not EXACTLY the same items that the WoO were selling in their trailer, I don’t see where the WoO would have a leg to stand on. But I know that doesn’t make any difference to the WoO. Some years age, roughly late 70's or early 80's, I know for a fact that Ted Johnson had John Padjen make a vendor stop selling a t-shirt he was selling. While the shirt was sprint car themed, it was not a shirt that the WoO was selling. About that same era, they also refused to let the regular weekly die cast vendor at Kings Speedway set up at all. After some negotiating back and forth, they finally allowed him to set up shop, but he could not sell certain drivers cars, Kinser, Swindell and Wolfgang, if I remember correctly.

The Trade Show during the Nationals used to be a great event, always full of vendors and people, until someone, (I'm assuming the fairboard) decided to jack the booth rental throught the roof, along with a percentage of sales. Thats when most of the outlaws moved across the street.
Giving some space to the locals is a great idea, heck, the buildings half empty these days.

Team W that is the story I heard also. The racetrack or fairboard wanted a percentage of all sales so the Outlaw teams rented space across the road to avoid paying percentages to the racetrack.
