Streeter drives Orth Family Racing No. 24 to fourth place finish

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA - May 6, 2007...Matt Streeter drove the Orth Family Racing No. 24 into its second top five finish of the year on Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway Point Race #6. Matt came into the evening sitting fourth in the John Padjen Motorsports wingless spec sprint point standings and looked to make up some ground in the standings.

The track was the fastest it has been all season and made for some exciting racing throughout the night. Matt lined up in the third row during the night’s opening wingless spec sprint heat race. As the green flag waved he carved his way into third aboard the A.R.T. Enterprise, M & S Racing Engines, Mike German & Sons No. 24.

Matt ran the high scary side as he closed in on the top two. The Orth Family Racing machine was hooked up and on lap five Matt drove around Brandon Davis to take second. He stayed on the fonz and drove around leader Jimmy Pettit the next time by to take over the lead. Matt led the last couple circuits to pick up his third heat race win of the year in Chico.

The 20 lap wingless spec sprint main event saw Matt line up in the seventh position. The first few laps it looked like Matt had the car to beat as he moved into third on lap four. Lap eight saw a red flag occur and Matt was in third for the restart. After going back green he lost a spot to Billy Wallace and as the race went on he didn’t have the same strength that he did early, but after 20 laps he brought home a nice fourth place finish in the Vaughn & Family, T & T Trucking, Orth Family Racing No. 24.

Next up for Matt Streeter and the Orth Family Racing team will be this coming Friday at Silver Dollar Speedway for Point Race #7. The night of action is part of the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial weekend and the main event for the wingless spec sprints has an extra $350 thrown in to make the highest paying point race of the season.

Jonathan Allard Wins Again at Chico

By: Troy Hennig

(Chico, CA 5-4-07)…Chico’s Jonathan Allard decided a few weeks ago to shake things up.  He and the Morrie Williams Motorsports #0 team were not happy with their early season results.  So in stepped a new Maxim chassis built from scratch that has now led to back-to-back wins at Silver Dollar Speedway.  “It was a change that we had to make,” said Allard.  “I feel so comfortable in this new car and I think the results have proved that.”  Allard passed Kyle Hirst on lap three of the 25-lap main event.  Brad Sweet throughout the middle of the race challenged him but Sweet pulled off the track with five laps to go with motor problems.  Allard comfortably led the final few laps to win the $2,000 payday.  “I say this a lot but I have to thank my crew and Morrie and Katie Williams for allowing me to drive this amazing race car.”

It was an action packed night during point race number six of the Feather Falls Casino Friday night championship series.  Ashley Furniture Home Stores sponsored the night.  Yet, the most impressive part of the night had to be the brand new state of the art scoreboard installed this week by John Padjen Motorsports and the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds.  The scoreboard can display the top five of a race at any point throughout the night and also was useful during qualifying.  Brad Sweet wowed the crowd when he turned the fastest lap of the night at an 11.555.

Kyle Hirst started the main event with the lead.  However, it was short lived as he drifted up the track in turn four and gave the lead to Allard.  Brad Sweet moved into the second spot a few laps later and turned out to be the only challenger of the night for Allard.  Up front the two hired drivers put on quite a display of speed and passing slower traffic.  On lap nine Ashley Furniture driver Eddy Lewis stopped and brought out a caution.  On lap ten the red was needed when Matt Shelton tipped over in turn four.  Once the race restarted it was the Allard and Sweet show.  They thrilled the crowd and at one point had almost a full straight away lead over the rest of the field.  The battle for the lead intensified on lap 18 when Allard was stuck behind four slower cars.  On lap 20 it looked as if Sweet was ready to make his move.  However, it was not meant to be.  Sweet veered to the right off turn two and was done for the night.  Something in the motor had let go.  This gave Allard the cushion he needed and won the main event.  It was his second win in a row and fourth of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway.  Hirst finished in the second spot.  Sean Becker wasn’t a factor for the win tonight but was still as fast as the rest of the field behind Allard.  Becker came home in the third spot.  Andy Forsberg finished in the fourth spot.  Andy Gregg finished fifth and was happy to get the top five at Chico.

Becker won the 12-lap B main event with ease.  Robert Stice, Colby Weisz and Dan Ochs followed him.  All four transferred to the main event.  Weisz went on to pass the most cars in the main event.  He started 19th and finished ninth.

Stephen Allard won the first heat race.  Brett Miller grabbed the victory in heat two.  Yet, later in the main event he flipped off turn one and done for the night.  Australia driver Trevor Green won heat race three.  Fast Eddy Lewis made Robert Myers happy by winning heat four.

It was an emotional night for wingless spec sprint driver Brandon Davis.  His team consists of his dad and himself.  They make the three and half hour drive from Rohnert Park each week to race at Chico.  On Friday night all their hard work paid off.  Davis passed Rich Crumley on lap five of the 20-lap main event and went on to win his first main event of the year.  “I get out of school at noon and my dad picks me up and we start heading to Chico,” said Davis in victory lane.  “It’s just him and me and this win is real special for us.”  Davis was able to hold of the charging Billy Wallace late in the race.  Wallace has won three main events this year and ended up finishing second to Davis.  Wallace is the point leader of the division while Davis is in the third spot.  Ironically enough, Jay Youngman finished in the third spot.  Youngman runs in the second spot of the championship point series.  Matt Streeter, fourth in points, and maybe we are seeing a theme here, finished fourth.  Jimmy Steward had his best run of the year to finish fifth.  Good effort from RC Smith who started 16th and finished seventh.  Jake Serven started 21st and finished ninth.

Streeter won the first heat race.  Charlie Marrs got the win in heat two driving the Joe Hunt Magnetos #7.  Reyna Krueger dominated heat race three.  She is really gathering a good fan following and is always fast.

Randy McDaniel scored his second win of the year during the dirt modified main event.  McDaniel passed Mark Abouzeid late in the race to get the win.  The race was stopped on lap eleven when race leader Richard Papenhausen was involved in a freak accident.  Papenhausen was the race leader and looked to be the fastest car of the night on his way to the win.  However, on lap eleven he was trying to pass a car on the outside when the car ahead of that battle was exiting to the pit area.  Papenhausen hit the exiting car and catapulted his car in the air.  He almost went upside down but landed on all four wheels.  Yet, it was a hard jolt that needed the paramedics to come check out Papenhausen.  After a few minutes he emerged from the car and was released back to the pit area.  Papenhausen has been a fixture at Silver Dollar Speedway for many years and has been one of the greatest drivers on the last ten years in Late Models and dirt modifieds.  Mark Abouzeid inherited the lead but almost stalled the car going into turn one on lap 12.  McDaniel dove to bottom and led the final few laps.  “We brought the wrong car here tonight for this type of track,” said McDaniel.  “Richard had us covered but got involved in that accident.  I went and checked on him after the race and I was glad to see him alright.”  Abouzeid was second and Darin Ruley came across third.

Papenhausen won the first heat.  Duane Cleveland won heat two but did not return for the main event.
