Fred Stewart's #97 super is on the market. Formerly raced by Jim Toombs, Larry Hall, and Rick Salem. Was on the November, 2010 cover of Vintage Oval Racing Magazine.

I am pretty sure that the 22 is a Jelly chassis. The 2 with Larry Coleman I do not know about. the picture of Larry is great, I think that was the day he finished 2nd at he Hutch Nationals. Is that right Warren? Larry is a great guy in 1975 he was down here with Norman to drive the 17 at Dewey and in Fayetteville AR anyway he was driving a real nice 1966 Corvette coupe. I told him that I had never got to drive a 'vette well he gave me the keys and he crawled behind the seats under the fast back and his wife sat next to me and told me to drive as long as I wanted. Larry is a pretty big guy and there is not a lot of room behind seats so really appreciated that and the vette was fun to drive but I took it pretty easy.

I finally got around to reading ALL of the KAR newsletter. Fred and Max Estes are having a garage sale. Max is selling his #46 super, as well as his black beauty, the #11 Jim Harkness super.

I was told one time viewers that look at this site don't have any money to buy stuff.

I know a man who lives in a concrete house, a converted laundramat. He HAS the money sitting in a safe deposit box , cash mind you. He was seriously talking about buying the P-2 car, outright with $100.00 bills. He just didn't know if the movement would be strong enough here to justify spending that kind of cash. He has a slow cancer, and just enough time and money to enjoy himself before his 'agent orange stimulated' cancer takes serious hold.

With the quiet he notices coming from our corner down here, he feels he'll be better off slowly building his own car.

Many buyers on this site that wish to sell.................You would think they'd put more into the movement that creates a "market" strong enough to pull in the money to complete a sale and keep the cars here.

I figured out pretty soon, that if we don't run, display, AND GET ALONG. Then there is no market, and these cars go to where there is a market.......common sense.

If gas goes to $5/gal, like they are talking, is only going to make it worse. Car count will go way down, even if there is a show. Afraid that more cars will wind up being sold to clean out the garage, with some winding up as the salad bowl for the buffet at a Chucky Cheese. The young people don't have the passion for these cars because they never got to see them run, so they become a way for us old people to hang on to our memories. No apologies for that, but no easy answers either. I know when I bring out the rusty rail, whether at a race track or car show, it always draws a crowd. As long as I can keep showing it off, I will, and hope that it will light a spark in someone else to get involved.

Forgive me for being behind the eight ball. Just joined. Is there a movement somewhere to revivie the cool old cars or am I mis-reading something here?

This site here has a comprehensive listing of the different vintage sites around the country. February has a big one in Florida http://www.daararacing.com/links.html

Check the two different restored sections out on this site. These are photos of vintage cars that have been restored, replicated or in some cases preserved.

Randy,

If you ever come back to the Tulsa area to visit you will have to schedule it around one of the vintage shows. I'm not sure which one to suggest though at present.

Randy, some of the viewers on here may have been in the stands when you got hit by the clod. They may have been in the same aisle fighting between Emmett Hahn or Ray Crawford. Heck you may have went to school with some of them. We have had several reunions of old friends over the 11 years on the web. It has been amazing.

Honestly.... My entire family is still in Oklahoma spread out between Tulsa, Claremore and Broken Arrow. In fact, I was just there at Thanksgiving. Went the long way back to the airport to see if the big oil dude was still standing at the fairgrounds. I honestly can't tell you what looking at these awesome machines and the hero's from my youth have done to me since I discovered this site early this week. Every click and every new page brings a new wash of memories. I hate that I spent thirty years being too busy too remember how awesome of a time that it was. ... I am afraid it will show negatively in my company's bottom line for January though... Ha!

I don't remember ever seeing a Henry J back in the day racing.

Check out the vintage cars in Wisconsin. http://www.vmsconline.com/membersiron.html
