I was thinking about this question for a couple of days now. I was talking to a car owner couple of weeks ago and they were concerned about the price of gas during the summer months. With the prices now reaching the 3 dollor mark what would it be like during the summer.
My questions is how would gas prices affect your racing? Are you going to do less racing, stay closer to home etc etc?
This was just meant to be a discussion topic and not a slam on anyone or any one person.

This is a real good question and reminds me of that three years ago when gas prices were this high. But the big difference between then and now is we don't have Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday nights which was basically close to home for the majority of the drivers who frequent tidbits.
I really think the traveling sanctioning bodies will be hurting and you can't blame the drivers one bit. Hard going up and down the road and spend more money on fuel than you make.
The only silver lining is maybe this will help the weekly track as drivers will stay "home"and compete.
Again, very good question.

Gas prices is the reason why we have a gooseneck open trailer and don't exceed the speed limit. With a enclosed trailer I got around 8 miles to the gallon and with the open trailer we get 12. Over the year that will save quite a bit of money. Lets hope that fuel prices stay close to where they are now or get cheaper.Remember if gas goes up at the pump that methanol and racing gas will go up also

When I was a truck driver I always got the fuel bonuses. I drove 60 mph on the interstates. On two lanes I always drove the speed limit as to not impede traffic Ha Ha. I Turned the cruise off at the peak of a hill and let the truck roll. The cruise is still trying to accelerate even at the peak. In a few feet/yards your going to be free rolling anyway. At the bottom of the hill you will be surprised at how far you will coast before you need to set the cruise back on resume. A good hill you may coast a mile or more. A good example in Oklahoma is Honey Creek Pass on I-35 north of Ardmore through the Arbuckles. Idle time is also a killer. Slow down for stoplight intersections and try to time the red changing to green so you do not need to accelerate back up to speed from a dead stop. I know time is money but it does work even in a car.
