Which is the reason there needs to be a spec tire for ALL racing series, F1 right down to WKA.

The cheapest one I can find, usually American Racer, which happens to be a very good tire.

i don't understand your point. i am trying to figure out just what benefit having spec tires has given the racers. it sure has not seemed to control prices. competition among manufacturers seems to be what produces products and pricing that better serve the consumer.
if i was buying tires for a race car and could run any tire any place i went, i think i would get the tire i felt would give me the best performance for the money i was able to spend. i see no reason to be loyal to a specific manufacturer unless they are willing to make it worth it to me. if one brand of tire works better at some time than another, i see no reason not to use what i feel works best for me at the time. manufacturers will price their products competitively with each other in order to attract your business. they will sell their tires at price people are willing to pay. if they have the best and most popular tire, and people will pay for it, they will try to charge more than say someone who has a tire that people are not wanting to buy as much. that will happen until they start pricing themselves too high and enough people just start getting other tires. the market and the competition among manufacturers will control the pricing. that is my opinion. spec tire rules don't seem to be our friend as racers.
to indy and beyond!!

Combination of price & performance. Am Racer RR's aren't bad, fronts stink, and LR's are so-so. Would prob go Hoosier LR & fronts, Am Racer RR.

34 raceway in Burlington IA does not have a spec tire rule. This is so that those of us who wish to keep cost low (which is the majority of us) would rather run someone elses tires for the two to five nights that they are unwilling to pursue. For the most part the tires of choice have been whatever the outlaws have been on. Very few there are on new rubber. And there is an abundance of good used tires out of other clubs. We run primarily Hoosiers of whatever compund was available when we got them. I am not really picky, to be so would break the bank. New tires are ridiculously priced for the time that they actually last.
We had a tire rule in 2009. It was an american racer mc-3, and frankly it sucked. The tire was ok, but you paid hell trying to find them used. I spent more on three tires for 2009 then I did for the 64 tires I still have at the shop waiting to be run.
If I could manage to put new skins on I would probably go with Hoosiers.
I understand both arguments with regards to tires, but alot of folks just run what they can afford.

does anyone know if there is a tire rule over in Australia? I notice (for the most part) it seems everyone is on Hoosiers. I think it's funny that the Outlaw drivers are mandated to run Goodyears due to their "buying in" so they all jump on deals and run their stickers....and the first chance they can run anything but a goodyear they do! I believe my assumption is correct unless there is a Hoosier rule down under?
do it in the dirt
