Hi, this is my first post here, but I've been a fan of the site for a while. I figured you guys would be able to help me. I'm looking for information for the 4/1 WOO show at Merced Speedway. I'm trying to find out when the tickets go on sale, are they reserved and is there anything I should know about the track (pro or con).
I've tried to contact the track by phone and email without any luck. We're coming in from out of town and I don't want to book hotels or flights until I know the story on the tickets.
Thanks.
Rob

Advice? Skip this one. You will get much more for your $$ by going to the Mini Gold Cup.

These races are three weeks apart. Why couldnt you go to both? Do you only have enough aluminum cans to see one race this year ?

Where do you live numbnuts? I live in Chico and in addition to that fact I have plenty of experience at both facilities to speak to their quality and the quality of the racing. I was at both NARC events at Merced in 1992 and more than my fare share of other events over the '92 and '93 season. I've seen pictures of the joint recently and there ain't that much difference. Personally - based on my experience - I wouldn't go to that show unless I lived within an hour of the place. I'd rather go to Calistoga and enjoy an evening there instead. I will likely be going to more than one race too btw this just won't be one of them. I will give everyone one thing however: A sellout at this event is all but guaranteed.

I would be careful making plans to come from out of town spending alot of money to go to Calif. for spring races! Its not unusual for them to get rained out! I woud make plans to go to the Gold Cup in Sept. Better races and not as much of a chance to get rained out. Hope this makes you think about spending your money wisely. Have fun at the races!

The original post is from a guy with the screen name...NY RACER. I read this and assume he/she is from New York?! Perhaps, this person will be in this area for another reason(work, vacation, etc.) around this date and want to take in the race? It doesn 't say they are planning a specific trip to go see a race! I like to keep an open mind on people asking a simple question before I jump in and start telling them not to go and/or telling them where the racing is better.
do it in the dirt

Thanks for jumping in. Actually we're retired from New York and now live in Arizona. We've been to many of the tracks in California and usually go to the 2 day WOO show in Tulare every year, but this year we have a scheduling conflict on that weekend.
I'm aware of the potential for rain but that's a chance we take every year. We also go to Skagit and Cottage Grove every year and that's also a risk for bad weather. In fact, I still have my raincheck from Grays Harbor from the 2010 WOO show. We just decided to try out Merced this year (and also Calistoga, which we've already been to) and add another track to the list. The problem was I couldn't find any information on the tickets. I took the advice form Robert and called WRG. The Merced ticket information will be posted on the Merced Speedway website in about 2 weeks. Thanks for the help.

There's a short article in the new issue of Speedway Illustrated about the cars and the track at Merced. They run a local modified, using narrrowed bodies, with carbureted engines...and the track looks like it's pretty heavy, with lots of moisture.
So the track may have changed since NARC was there in the early '90's.....I wish them well with their WoO promotion.
Chuck.....

Expert? No. Somebody with enough information to form an opinion more than someone who has never been there? Yes.
