The new book is on NASCAR racing legend Larry Phillips. The book is not self-published and is slated for national release by Bella Rosa Books (www.bellarosabooks.com) on Jan. 22. It will retail for $18.95 and will be available through most national chains and local bookstores.
Springfield's David Zeszutek teamed up with veteran author Kendall Bell of South Carolina to tell the story of how Springfield's own Larry Phillips grew up to become a driving force, not only as a race car driver and builder, but also as a mentor such NASCAR greats as Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Kenny Wallce and others. In the book, each of these drivers tell how Larry influenced their early careers and gave them the advice they needed to become competitive and successful. When Larry died in 2004, he left behind a legacy that will continue to be felt across NASCAR for many years yet to come. "Larry Phillips: NASCAR's Only Five-Time Winston Racing Series Champion; Master of the Short Track," will be unveiled at the Ozarks Area Racers Reunion in Springfield on Jan. 22. A sneak peak preview will be at Half-Price Books of the Ozarks located at 1950 S. Glenstone, from 2 to 4 p.m. on the 22nd. The co-authors will be on hand to sign copies of their book both at Half-Price Books and at the Racers Reunion. They will be at Barnes and Noble in Springfield the next day from 1-3 p.m. and at many area retailers throughout the following week. A complete schedule will be posted online at www.kendallbell.com by Friday of this week. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will go to the Larry Phillips Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) corporation established to provide scholarships for students as well as aiding people who suffer catastophic illnesses. For more information on the foundation, go online to www.larryphillipsfoundation.org . Please mention you seen it here on the Racing From The Past site. Maybe I can get a free book if enough mention the site when they order or buy one.
