Who'd a guessed that! Good for the fans, bad for the drivers---more specifically bad for owners pocketbooks, unless you are starting in the back, at which point you're always half way to the front on restarts. An NSSN article by Ron Hedger talks to several drivers, including Joey Saldana, Fred Rahmer, Steve Kinser, Paul McMahon, Darren Pittman and Doug Esh. Kinser complained the most about the Grove "the starts at the Grove are really tough with that hairpin corner there". Pittman best comment: "i could live with double file rstarts but with 5 to 10 to go, it needs to be single file because people do stupid things". "On a green-white-checkered, everybody gets rediculously stupid and to change the outcome due to unnecessary wrecks that late in the race is wrong". "if a guy is 10th for a restart with 2 to go, all of a sudden he can see the leader and he's out of control". Saldana, McMahonand Pittman all give the nod to Kinser winning races thanks to the double-file restarts. Says Joey: "sad part is that when the leader gets some lapped cars behind him, he's earned the right to keep them there and now they've taken that away and that sucks". The PA drivers are worred that their local races may adopt this. Also, from Paul McMahon: "I haven't got wadded up yet but I've been close and there's one guy out there who seems to tear up a lot of race cars on restarts". No name given and no idea who he was talking about but the article was written at Lernerville.

Me, I'll take all the action I can get from my $30 ticket. Doubtless, some drivers with deep pockets are more willing to give up their equipment to get to the front in the last few laps. As far as Napscar, its the best thing to happen there in a long time.

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

I've raced in the Winged Modified(north east modifieds utilizing sprint car wings) class in 96 thru 98. LOVED the double file restarts. Won a CHAMPIONSHIP using it to my advantage. Makes for better drivers, closer races and great for fans. Not to mention, makes the track wider and racier. You can't deny that, fans or racers. I believe it needs to be used in more classes and tracks. We've been running Sprint cars since 2002 and would like to see more double file restarts in the South.

I hated to watch the WoO freight train show. Now, since the double file restarts it makse the races a lot more exciting!!! It would be great to see the ASCS and others adopt those restarts.

From what I see, the drivers that are complaining are the ones that are trying to eliminate their competition. Wouldn't you say???

If all the cars are going to be basically the same with all advancements and improvements in performance "outlawed", they think they've got to make it worth watching in other ways. Lets go to a fraction of the current restrictions and deballing rules and single file restarts. It would cost less dollars and injuries in the end. If people need to see pointless, meaningless, expensive and most importanly dangerous situations, let them go to a NAPCAR plate race. Socialism fails everywhere including the race track!

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

NASCAR fully endorses Pittman's comment. Saldana McMahan and Pittman all can get bent. Kinser has 500+ main event wins and not all had double file restarts. one thing is for sure, racers will bitch about everything.

I agree 100%, but what the hell does that have to do with double-file restarts?

Couldnt agree with you more. As low as the nascar attendance has been the last few years, i see this trend going slowly back the right way. There is a little more nascar talk at the water cooler every monday at work. I think the double file restart has had a big hand in stopping the free fall in nascar. They still have a ton of issues to fix,(like the pile of crap cars they have to drive now) but they are going in the right direction finally. Sprint car racing can take a page from nascar. Sprint car racing seems to be very popular right now and taking proactive steps to keep the fans interest is the right way to go. My boss tells me, it takes years to get a paying customer and only minutes to lose them. I was disappointed that Knoxville decided not to run double file restarts at the nationals, however, the event was great without them. I hope looking to the future this gets implemented, as this track has PLENTY of room and it would have spiced up some of those boring years in the past.

As for the dangers in the double file restarts, the drivers are in command of this themselves. How can the drivers blame anyone else for the dangers of the double file restart. I personally dont see anyone drive any more conservative on the initial start of a race than with 5 to go. And those have always been (to my knowledge) double file starts. I feel they race at 100% for each spot from the drop of the green. It's in their nature.

I 've seen proportionally just as many wrecks on restarts single file over the years at tracks as I did double file for the Outlaws at Williams Grove this year. Guys laying back on single file restarts and then making kamikaze runs into one have torn up more than the double file did this year.
