I would like to know how, after watching the world finals on TV last night, anyone could possibly complain about Knoxville going to 40 and 50 laps the last two years. I know what "sprint" means, but now i wonder if i can ever watch 25 lap features again. It leaves me wanting more racing after only 25 laps. I think they could have done all of the qualifying crap the first two nights and run 3 long features on saturday night. Maybe 50 lap modified A-main, 100 lap late model A-main, and a 50 lap sprint car. Just my opinion. Throw some dashes or something in for fillers, but main races would be the A's. I know all of the die hard, "old school", "change upsets me", cranky sprint car fans would not like a, horrible, time consuming, heart wrenching, unbearable, painstaking, fuel stop, but it made the nationals very entertaining.

Also, I know there was a good showing of Posse, but no ass-whooping? What gives? Thought they owned the outlaws? Oh wait, forgot, we were in North Carolina.

I agree. I flew all the way down there for two 25 lap features that seemed like they were over in minutes. The A mains should of been 30 or 40 laps.

The late model & mods shows were decent but the track was crap for the sprints.

I know you have disagreed with me on some other threads , but I agree with you here on this one . But you see the WRG says they care about the fans , but they do the races there way. So I am telling you to write --e-mail them on your opinions , changes you would like to see and anything else on your mind . Also there is only a few people at WRG that know anything about racing ? talk to a few of them and you will see what I mean .

By the way I care deeply about the status of winged racing as it is today and know they must improve the product some for fans like you and me . I knew it would not be good racing down at Charlotte , that's why I went to Perris Auto Speedway for the Oval Nationals . The track , too many divisions and the format is why I stayed away this year and will not go until they change things around for fans & provide better racing .

I can't remember any good racing (at least from the TV perspective) at the world finals since they started showing them. So, I think your decision to spend your money elsewhere was a good one. I have seen what I thought were a couple of stale Knoxville Nationals, and after experiencing some sprint car races at other nearby venues and witnessing some of the televised events, such as the World Finals, I feel spoiled to be able to attend the 4 days in Knoxville in August for the last 9 years. I really want to venture out and experience some of the other great tracks in PA and across the south, but that is not in the cards for a while. (other priorities now) All I know is, I am not yet impressed with what the world finals has been, and I dont think I will be until some major changes are made to the format. The cars are there. The track is there. Just need to tweak the format. Ok, overhaul the format.

I was there and I don't think they are worried about the format as the grandstand was sold out and they sold thousands more "standing room only" tickets. The Late Model & Mods shows were awesome. However, the sprint heats & features were sleepers. It seemed like most of the fans there were Late Model fans. It doesn't seem to matter if they have Late Models or not .... this track does not produce exciting racing for Wing Sprint Cars .... more of a late model track.

Oakland...don't forget...you were smack-dab in the middle of NASCAR country. Most of the people in the stands were there to see the door-bangers.

More to add, we partied with a group from PA out at knoxville this year. They were a blast. We were only two spots down from them at the campground and ironically sat in the same section in the backstretch. They were pumped that Shafer won although he wasnt "posse" (them and 22000 of the 23500 in attendance) I definitely need to make it to PA.

I like the SDS mods ... they're kind of a hybrid between sprints and late models. I hate IMCA type mortifieds but the big block modifieds are cool. The major thing that really bugs me about lates and mods is the "hoopty" rear ends they run that tilts the car to the right ... that's just plain WEIRD looking and an un-natural attitude for a race car.

Let's hope they change the format to the way it was before or change it entirely .What they really need to do is LISTEN TO FANS THAT GO TO THE WORLD FINALS.

The biggest reasons this event is successful is that fans were looking for an event to close out the season , it is close to a allot states that have huge populations of sprint car and late model fans , the Charlotte dirt track can accomodate RV'S and campers and the combo ticket . It is not the racing because it is only average racing not the kind of racing fans deserve to see as a high profile event . WRG can do better I believe , but it is successful so they probably won't tweak it , will they ??
