The following is a response to Andrew Quinn's remembering the old days of HoserVilleCa on another thread. After posting it, I felt I needed to post it as it's own topic...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You know Andrew, not only did we have alot of fun, we were a family. One that included others like yourself. I always considered you, Wifey, MSPN and some others as part of our deal, just located farther away.
In spirit, it's still there. It's not quite like it was, but things change and I understand that. I still miss those times though...
I firmly believe there were some that were jealous of what we had and came here with the intent of tearing it down. Some believe they were successful but I don't. HoserVille (I'm referring to the attitude, not an organazation) can't be busted. Ask CarWash. Ask YZman. Ask Studeedoo. Ask CrecentWench. Ask PaceTruckChuck. Ask Ed Noceti. Ask Batman. Ask MSPN. Ask Pong. Ask Bear. Ask A.J. Ask MissaMing. Ask Wifey. Ask David Vodden. Ask CaNanna... she, John and Troy Hennig know it in their heart. Ask Dave & Diane Durica. I know CherryBomb and Spike know it too.
When it came to "internet SprintCar fans" in NorCal, there became two factions. Although some straddled the fence then and continue to do so today, some saw it as an "us against them" situation. That's where alot of people got it wrong. Although HoserVilleCa did become a loose organazation, it was done so with the betterment of racing in mind. It was proffered by some fans that possessed the "attitude" and wanted to use the organazational power to help racing. It is not a place, it's an attitude. Or, It;s an attitude, not a place. Depending on which banner you read. lol.
I am sorry for some who felt they had to make a choice to choose one or the other. HoserVille was never about that, again it was an attitude. An attitude to help racing flourish.
Along about the time NARC disbanded, a bunch of us got together to try to help "save" SprintCar racing in NorCal. Those that were involved will remember the meeting at Calistoga (thanks to Kerry) and later with some drivers (thanks Brent) at the "Thrilla in Chowchilla". I think HoserVilleCa was borne, if not then, at least from that attitude that collectively, we could make a difference in the health of our beloved sport.
JPM picked up GSC with the help of other promoters in the state and although at first some of us didn't think that was a great thing, it seems to have worked out.(I still miss Jim Allen though...)
Although some friendships were strained, you can be sure that the premise (read attitude) on which HoserVille was founded still exists today and quite simply will always exist in some form.
I want to say here that HoserVilleCa lost some members (term used loosely) during the turmoil of recent times, the ones that changed allegience because of the promise of money for their racing endeavors. I understand that completely. HoserVille never had the big bucks to throw around and it cost plenty to keep a team at the track. I know I (and I believe those that count) don't hold that against you. You gotta do what you gotta do and if it means more cars on the track then that's good for all of us.
Although not as strong as it once was, the HoserVille attitude still survives. And, with the help of others, CarWash Mike is making sure our support of the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial race continues on. Mike, you haven't asked me yet, but if you want me to reprise my role from previous Bradways, I would be honored.
I miss AngelWing.
Whew!
Jim Dale
