Wow, Just goes to show you how violent this sport is..... What kind of chassis was he running? Was it a lightweight one? I guess it doesnt really matter, I dont think any chassis could hold up to that kind of hit! we run a double tube cage made by buckley chassis. do any other chassis manufacturers run double tube? it is a little more heavy but would it hold up to that kind of hit? I dont really think any test have been made to withstand hits like that. our thoughts and prayers go out to Shane and his family in this time of need....
Everyone is a little Crazy in their own unique way...

I'm pretty sure that RWB is a Maxim distb. Like you stated I don't think any cage would hold up to a straight head hit like he unfortunatley took. At the end of the crash as the car land's what the black thing that fly's up and comes back down? ? My first thought was his helmet but I don't think so. Any insight's to what that may have been?

I believe the family and team have requested the video to be removed at this time, and the owner of the video has observed the families wishes.
For those who did have a chance to see it, it was about a tough a hit as a roll cage can get, I'm surprised anyone could of survived that wreck.
Wonder what the chassis makers can learn from this. Did the frame damage help (obsorb some of the impact) in the accident or should they stiffen up the frames more? Sometimes very violent wrecks happen the most unexpectanly way which the designers never can plan for.
Someone mentioned the Hans Device MIGHT have contributed to Shane's damaged carotid artery. Is there anything to be learned from this?
The most important thing is that Shane is stable, doing better, but still in critical condition. That was a violent flip and he is lucky to have survived.

I'm almost afraid to pose the question as the answer may not be good. Has anything been said about movement in his legs?
I didn't see the video of the crash but have seen a couple of still pictures of the car post-crash. That must have been one whale of a hit.

Their may be legal issues at play here. Not a good idea to expose to many people to the accident.
Get better Shane.

Shane Hmiel - Road to Recovery
good evening to all shane's supporters ----he has had a very restful
day ok is surgery for the vein in his neck is sceduled at 8 am so
prayers and thoughts will be appreciated and have been grateful
appreciated thanks to all from the hmiel"s actually shane refers to
us as the "hmielwalds"This is the 10/13/10 post
I think the comment about legal issues is just smoke blowing. It's a matter of privacy and respect. Until he recovers, common decency says you don't publicize the video.
