I dont know how much a RACETECH seat weighs. But RACETECH makes awsome seat! Lucas Wolfe use on one the World of Outlaw tour. You can check out two REALLY bad crashes on youtube of Lucas Wolfe. This years GOLD CUP in CA, Plus you can see his WILLIAMS GROVE crash with Freddie Rahmer where there was nothing left of the 5W!

It's heavier than 10lbs....I could be wrong, but I believe it is a carbon fiber and kevlar mix. Aaron Berryhill uses them and I also saw one used with the WoO...Maybe Lucas Wolf??? Get ready to spend some serious $$$

Rahmer, the Kaedings, Hodnett, Lance Dewease and many other top guns run the race saver seat.
Just wondering, but I do not think Lucas was using that seat yet when he crashed in the Rahmer incident.............

This is an all carbon seat that. It was seen @ the grove with Kahne Racing. Heard Saldana was sitting in it (Not mounted in the car).

Carbon fiber seats may be light, however, they are not the safest! Carbon fiber is to ridged and the drivers body absorbs more of the energy from the crash. Drivers are better off to have an aluminium seat lined with energy absorbing foam. Check out D Pittman's seat, the safe-way to go.

My question is how does carbon fibre seats compare to aluminum seats when you are dealing with multible impacts as you see in sprint cars?

The carbon fiber seats look like a very nice seat when I was looking at Aaron's. Also, I know of several drivers who use the LaJoie seat too and say they are by far the most comfortable.

Carbon seats are to ridge, the BODY absorbs the energy. With an aluminium seat, some of the energy is absorbed is by the aluminium. To have the safest seat you need one that is lined with an energy absorbing material. Check out DJS safe seats or Bald Spot Sports.

Knowing just enough to be dangerous - I would say that carbon fiber compositites can be designed to deflect to an engineered amount that is specified by the FIA or SFI. I would think that the attraction would be it strength to weight ratio and it's resistance to yield like a metallic material.
FYI - 90% of your Nascar Cup teams and all F-1 / IRL teams have composite seating with energy absorbing foam - Thats a fact!

Fact. Seats in an IndyCar are all energy absorbing foam, NO carbon. The tub that the driver and seat is in is carbon, but not the seat. Why? Because carbon is to ridged! If carbon seats are the safest way to go IndyCar would use them. IndyCar is the most safety minded organization of all the major motorsports. If you do not believe ask Mike Conway. By the way, most Cup seats are Butler-Built or Lajoy(sp), built out of aluminium
