Wondered how many were at the Vintage show this past weekend, seen the video Brian posted about it , just not much talk or any photos about it, it was a classic deal last year and was really cool deal.

I heard they had about 30 plus cars. Counts are down everywhere.

I know this is down from last year- but what are the factors? I think it's a combination of things really-

1- Recession is loosening.

You would think a recession would hurt the count of vintage race cars, but in fact the count went up. The fear of hard times MADE people think about trying to follow a dream instead of a more solid portfolio.

2- Ten year cycle-

Seems like there is spike in interest in vintage cars somewhere in the country every ten years, usually at the beginning of a new decade.

3- Lack of promotion-

This whole thing is driven by desire. I can't see anybody making any money right now except for the promoters on race nights when they let the vintage cars in. Everybody else is losing money on the deal...they knew that getting in. I'll bet a horse's ass Ada and Wichita made money from the promotion somehow. People do come just for the vintage cars. The racing is just the icing. and vice veresa.

I honestly think however this- This board and a few others like it , fuel the intensity for what happens these days. There are quite a few that don't even get on here but when they hear the chatter coming from somewhere, and the networking heats up, cars start getting built.

WHEN CARS GET BUILT, THEIR OWNERS START LOOKING FOR AN APPLICATION TO USE THEM--LAPS/DISPLAY OR BOTH.

WHEN THE BUZZ SLOWS DOWN, SO DOES THE BUILDING OF THESE CARS!

This past year, the quiet criticisms about how I put things on here finally caught up with me. The nature of conflict I have run into just wore me down to the point of near silence as compared to earlier. When things fail (OkC/Street rod show)-(Ada), it's hard to feel credible enough to come back on here and shout the vintage car salute.

Using this board, there is another level we can take this buzz to. I'm looking into it such as in-car video, more old films I have found to post, and of course posting more pics. (pics- why can't people learn how to use that expensive digital camera and send the pics to me or someone so it can get posted on here?! I post stuff on here just as soon as I get them.)

Folks- we all build the buzz when we contribute, the power has been with us and is with us to do so. Warren has made sure of that.

Thank you Warren for this site.

I'll just say this that Short Track Racing is gonna change over the winter and into 2011,Some tracks will be doing things different more than every before from what I understand and hear, lots of tracks are up for sale and some may not open up in 2011 as well in this area. I hope this is not the case but hearing it more and more lately.

J.D. and Co. going to do something that we have not done in a long while ,head up to 81 Speedway and catch the NCRA Sprints Sat. night at the historic oval.

It'll feel just like ol times for me , up north on I-35 and into south Ks. and watch some guys like the Forshee and Maier and Selenke and others run, pretty pumped up about it since we decided on doing it last night.

Sometimes some of the stars from outside NCRA drop in at 81 Speedway from time to time. The following week their at Hutchinson and the fairgrounds. I just wonder being this late in the season if some of the notherners will try and get one last show in? Maybe some of the non-regular NCRA Oklahomans? It's probably not that big of purse to wish that though. I guess the Hutch date is in conflict with the ASCS Devils Bowl Winternationals and that is long tradition.

Warren, Heard from an NCRA official this morn. that Jack Dover, Brian Brown and Terry Gray are slated to be there and maybe a few others not expected.

Heck travel is the cost measuring device these days, I had heard Dover was expected to be at Cowtown and I guess the travel expenses costs said Wichita is closer.

Heck I am more excited about seeing some guys I have not seen run in years and a few others that I have heard of running the NCRA series but have never seen them run a Sprint.

Went to 81 Sat. night for the NCRA and had a great time, good show from the Sprint Cars and was kind of worried about the track from when he changed it this past Spring but still a racy place and when we pulled up into the place , still has that mystique about it that your pulling up to 81 Speedway to watch a BIG show and it was and had a really big crowd and C Ray understands the numbers game and the deal of promoting , unlike many others these days that don't get it and that is probably the reason why they are struggling and or shutting down.
