OCRS SPRINT CARS HIGHLIGHT
MUSKOGEE REGIONAL FAIR THIS FRIDAY NIGHT!
By: John Lemon
Tulsa,
Oklahoma (September 28, 2010) –It’s
that time of the year where the air turns from warm and humid to crisp
and
cool. A sense of comfort bedazzles those that enjoy outdoor
entertainment in
such temperatures. Communities all around begin their annual ritual of
hosting carnivals
and fairs for all to enjoy. This weekend, Muskogee Oklahoma will be
conducting
the “Muskogee Regional Fair” at the Muskogee Fairgrounds.Located
on the fairgrounds is the Thunderbird Speedway.
Thunderbird is a historic half-mile oval dirt track that has hosted auto
racing as far
back as 1955. Many marquee events have been held at Thunderbird over the
years
and multiple generations have experienced the thrill of high powered
vibrating engines
roaring around the track.
On Friday October 1st, the Oil
Capital
Racing Series sprint cars will make their second appearance on the
famed oval.
The first appearance on August 21st featured a stout 32 car
field
that competed on Thunderbird soil for the first time since the track
reopened
after a seven year hiatus. Rose Oklahoma’s Jamie Passmore won a
torrid duel
with Moore’s Frank Dittman and Stillwell’s Rafe Essary.
Passmore would use the
Thunderbird win to start a streak that would see him win three OCRS
events in a
row. With the cancellation of last Saturday’s scheduled event at the Wild
West
Speedway in Clinton Oklahoma due to the sudden sale of the track,
Passmore has
now locked up his third consecutive OCRS championship title.
While
Passmore can bask in his championship champagne
shower, there are a few serious battles amongst the OCRS contingent for
other
positions on the championship ladder. Essary holds down the runner-up
slot but
only by a 45 point margin over Tulsa’s Mike Goodman. The battle
for fourth is
even tighter with Broken Arrow’s Travis “Hollywood” Jenkins
holding a slim 27
point lead over Danny Smith of Sand Springs. The race to sixth on
the charts
sees three drivers within 16 markers of one another. Holding the
position is Fred Mattox of Drumright(1090)
followed by Miss Shayla Waddell of Oklahoma City (1084) and Tim
Kent Of Bristow
(1074). Kyle Clark of Sand Springs (999) and Brady Demeree
of Skiatook (948)
round out the top ten.
With
only three races remaining on the OCRS schedule,
it appears the challenge for the 2010 OCRS ‘Rookie of the Year’ by Brodix
Cylinders and Broken Arrow Lawn and Garden is going to go
down to the wire.
Demeree holds a slim 51 point margin over Inola’s Terry Easum.
These two young
hard chargers have been locked in a heated battle for this award most of
the
season and the final three OCRS events look to be very exciting for
these
racers and fans alike.
Pit gates open at 5pm with
grandstand gates opening at 6pm.
Hot laps begin at 7:00pm
with racing getting underway at 7:30pm.
OCRS drivers meeting
starts at 6:30pm.
The Regional Fair opens
at 6pm and is open till 11pm.
Fans are allowed to bring
their own lawn and/or lounge chairs into the track grandstand for
additional
comfort seating. Coolers are not permitted.
Ticket prices are $15 for
adults, $10 for seniors. Children 10 and under are free.
