Great track for modifieds, even better track for sprinters. Joey Saldana set a new track record until Sam Hafertepe was the very next car out and took his track record right back. I believe 5 drivers were under the previous track record.
Dollansky went from 16th to 6th in the first two laps until Schatz and McMahan got together and collected him.
Wolfe went from 24th to 6th in the first two laps.
The track laid rubber towards the end but even then there was passing going on and wicked, sliders. The track was like a 3/8-mile highbanked Knoxville with the wide corners and straightways.

Is it just me, or is it that every time I hear about the World of Outlaws racing at Deer Creek, it sounds like one of the greatest races of the year? Where does this race stack up to all the other races in that area?

I didn't make Spencer this weekend, so can't comment on it, but Deer Creek beats Brainerd hands down. It's probably a little better than Cedar Lake because it appears to have higher banking and might be a tad longer. Can't really compare it to Knoxville because nothing compares to Knoxville. (Sorry, that's my home track as a kid.) Personally, I think a 3/8 mile track is the perfect size for sprint cars. They get into traffic fairly quickly and with the high banking, manage to put up good speed numbers. My only complaint against Deer Creek is that they need more seating for the WOO shows. I got there just as the first door banger heat kicked off, and ended up on the backstretch standing with several hundred other folks two or three deep all the way to turn three. They did put a small number of bleacher seats back there this year which helped some. Also noticed there were some empty seats in the grandstand down low just out of turn four. I'm sure those seats were being pelted with dirt every time the cars went by as it seemed that almost everyone got real close to the wall there and then powered back down to the middle of the frontstretch.
No idea how it compares to Nodak or Fargo.
Definitely a good race between Saldana and Meyers and several other good battles back in the pack. It may not be the best track on the circuit, but they are two for two in putting on a good show. It's definitely a track to hit at least once.
No blown tires, but several of the local drivers were using softer tires, and they were down to no tread at all at the end of the race. I'm sure they were trying to get a little better bite to close the performance gap with the outlaws.

It would be hard pressed to find a better prepared surface on the tour. Ive been to every track in the midwest and alot of tracks around the country, and Ive not see a track hold up like Deer Creek does. They absolutely nailed the track prep this year.
I had general admission seats and sat in turn 4 with my wife. There were empty seats around us.... quite a few of them. Never figured that out. They were great seats!
The hospitality at the track towards the fans was impressive.
If there was any type of downfall, it was concessions. The lines were long and the menu limited and generic.
The racing was incredible!
Thank you to the Outlaws for the show that you put on.
Move Spencer to Thursday and have a two day show at Deer Creek so we could camp.

The Bob Buckmeier family "Sprint for a Cure" would like to send out a sincere thank you to those involved in the second annual Sprint for a Cure summer clash.
1. Deer Creek - not only a great track, but a great family who runs and owns the track. I am spoiled to live only 20 minutes away!!
2. WoO drivers - put on a terrific night of racing and also were very generous in donating items to our silent auction.(except 1 team)
3. Johnny Gibson - always makes the show better, but he must of mention the foundations name 30 times when he did not have too.
4. The FANS - a great crowd- helped make the event a success.
2 for 2 on great WoO races at deer creek!!
Thanks to everyone

Been there several times this year for late model races and the track is spot on every time. Have yet to make the 210-mile trip home disappointed. The track did not take rubber but rather really slicked off big time. They put new clay down about a month to month and a half ago and it has really bonded to the track. I will be going back there again several times next year.

Sorry spot1, but it did lay rubber the last 7 or 8 laps, as you could literally smell the rubber in the air. For anyone interested, if you have ever been to Pevely for an Outlaw race, it is comparable to that. Wicked slide-jobs from the front to the rear of the field during the entire A-main. I would put this facility in my top 5 and I have been to many facilities across the country. I was once again very impressed with the track preparation, as they nailed it this time, (just like last year) and I will be back to any WoO scheduled race at this facility. The one thing that turned me off was the female crew member of Kraig Kinsers yelling profanity laced obscenities at the WoO officials during one of the red-flag stoppages. That gal has the mouth of a sailor, that's for sure. It was on the back-stretch work area and all of us on the backstretch could hear it plain as day. Not good P.R. for the KK 11K racing team if you ask me. I agree with whoever mentioned it earlier in this thread, I would really like to see the WoO schedule this track for a 2 day show next year.

Well, I walked up the banking after the Victory Lane festivities and it wasn't rubbered down. I have walked on a rubbered track before and this was not rubbered. They did run two-three wide all the way to the end, too. That is not a characteristic of a rubbered track either. The track was black but that's typical of a slick clay surface, and that's even what the track owners were saying.

Here's an interview we did last year when i was doing some freelance work for Dirtcast that explains what Sprint For A Cure does. Unfortunately this was the second year in a row that I had to miss this race. We'll try to get down there again in '11.
