Dobmeier looks for Continued

Success going into WoO Weekend

9/17/2010

This last weekend, River Cities Speedway had a scheduled two-day event for Friday and Saturday, but as the rain fell canceling Friday’s event, the doubleheader was moved to Saturday and Sunday. Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports made the decision to race Saturday’s IRA event at New Richmond, Wisconsin’s Cedar Lake Speedway and then come back to River Cities Speedway for his last shot at the Back Row Challenge.

Cedar Lake Speedway is a fast 3/8 mile high-banked clay oval that always presents success for the Grand Forks, North Dakota team. Dobmeier started the night out with a top ten in his qualifying efforts capturing 9
th
quick out of the 36 entries and then walking away in the heat race from a fourth place starting position.
Dobmeier started on the pole of the main event and led the race up to the half-way point until Scott Winters in the 23w overtook the Senske & Son Right Choice Electric #13. The two put on an impressive amount of slide jobs, swapping for the lead until a caution flag flew on lap 24. Once the green flag dropped, Scott Winters took off, and Mark had to settle for second in the Jerry Richert Memorial.

“It was a disappointing,” says Mark after finishing second, “We were very fast all night and the guys did an awesome job on the car, but at the end, we were second best.”

Traveling all night and returning to Grand Forks from Cedar Lake at 6:30 on Sunday morning, the guys grabbed about 3 hours of sleep and met back at the shop at 10:00AM to prepare the car for the team’s one last shot at the Back Row Challenge.

If you remember from last week, Big Trucks by Jimco, Right Choice Electric, Willow Ridge, Rose Creek Tavern, and Dammer Trucking all got together and offered “Dynamite” Dobmeier an additional $1750 to come from the back of the Main Event to win. Following the impressive showing, the track decided to put in an additional $500 if Dobmeier could do it this week.

Coming from last to second in the heat race, Dobmeier took the challenge and lined up in the main on the outside of row ten, in the 20
th position. “We knew that the track wasn’t going to be there for us,” mentions Mark after coming from 20th to 4th on the ‘rubbered up’ one-lane racetrack, “River Cities Speedway should have done something more to the track between nights…They tore it up after our feature for the late model race, but racing on the bottom with the rubber coming down in the first few laps isn’t fun and it don’t put on a great show for the fans.”

Today, Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports will be traveling to Spencer, Iowa to compete with the World of Outlaws both tonight at Clay County Speedway and then Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN tomorrow.

Going into the weekend Dobmeier talks about last year at this time, “We have struggled a little bit at these places (Deer Creek Speedway and Clay County Speedway) with the Outlaws. But, we know we can race with these guys and we have been doing a lot of homework throughout this entire season, preparing ourselves for these upcoming events. I really think you should see the Senske & Son Right Choice Electric towards the front the field both nights. We have a great motor program, our guys are phenomenal…Everything is lined up right for us.”

Marks Last appearance with the World of Outlaws showed an impressive five place finish following a heat win just a few weeks ago at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota.
