SCRA 360S RETURN TO KINGS SPEEDWAY
by Dan Fleischer

One down, two-to-go. That's what's on tap for SCRA's 360 wingless Sprint cars when they return to Kings Speedway this Saturday (4/28) after last weekend thrilling event when crowd favorite Davey Pombo edged Peter Murphy in the 30-lap main event. After what's expected to be another barn-burner this weekend, SCRA will make it three consecutive weekends at the "The Place to Race" the following Saturday night, May 5th.

Murphy, the Australian native who resides in neighboring Clovis, is seeking revenge when he straps into his Tom Tarlton owned car. Murphy not only wants the victory, he is determined to pass Pombo in the season point standings and take over the top spot. He currently trails Pombo by a scant six points (215-209) after three events.

Not only do these two veterans have to fend off each other, they face strong competition from Rusty Carlile, who was very impressive last weekend. Carlile won his heat, the Dash and finished third in the main after a spirited battle with Garrett Ishii, Jeff Gardner and Dean Alexander. Carlile was last year's runner-up in the point standings behind Jonathan Logan, who has yet to get "untracked" in 2007 and is looking to get back into the fray.

The rookie contingency is headed by three 16-year-old phenoms. Justyne Hamblin, who has recorded two top-ten finishes and one quick qualifying time in three events, is battling Miles Bishop for top rookie honors. Bishop won the opening "tune-up" main event at Kings back in February and is looking to add to his laurels. Adam Frith-Smith, the third youngest, impressed veterans last Saturday with his improved driving style after an unfortunate crash in the season-opening event.

Alexander, Ishii and Gardner will return for more racing action as will Richard Harvey Jr., Kevin Barnes, Dave Knott, Matt Day, Brian Schuler and Jimmy Riddell. They're all looking forward to gathering some of the hardware and upsetting the current point leaders.

For further details on SCRA, call Richard Harvey Sr. at 559/582-8816.
