The poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with
the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is
unhappy with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3s of the
citizenry just ain't happy and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What we are so
unhappy about?'

Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the
summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these
unhappy folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery
store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the
last year?

Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic
Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through
each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would
find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I guess having
thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just
not good enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency
workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter
to take you to the hospital.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You
may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of
trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to
extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings. Or
if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or
prowler intrudes , an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest
will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in
the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and
pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own
cell phones and computers.

How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy
that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67
percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world
has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S., yet has a great disdain
for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in
the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have , and what we
hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no
plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval
rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days
after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of
recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the
book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from
terrorist attacks?

The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there
defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or
talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you
couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be
glad?

Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually
caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was
failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have
volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom.
There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go.

They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a 'general'
discharge, an 'other than honorable' discharge or, worst case scenario, a
'dishonorable' discharge after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of
Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it
leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash
with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the
corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations.
They offer what sells , and when criticized, try to defend their actions by
"justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a
murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his
wife, but if he did he would have done it this way......Insane!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off
the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your
bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There
is exponentially more good than bad.

We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several
times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding,
severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and
with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a
good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

I truly feel sorry for a person who must check on who said what, rather than read the message for what it is worth.

You seem to think that you are the first American that was ever lied to by your Government.

If not for the news media, you would never know anything.

I am sure that politicians "lying" has been part of Government since the beginning of time.

I am truly sorry that you feel America must be a bad place to live.

I spent 12 months in a Jungle once and had a Commander in Chief by the name of Lyndon Johnson that makes the current President look like a choirboy.

I personally enjoy the freedoms we have and look at the glass half full, I am a member of the Optimist Club.

We seem to have people who look at the glass half empty, they are the members of the Pessimist Club.

I would be willing to bet, the Optimist Club members have a much better attitude toward life.

My life is good, I am sorry your yours is un-fulfilled.

I took off the part of the email that gave creit to Jay Leno.

lol

It is hell getting old, a person tends to get senile at the same time the attention span drops a little.

I guess that is why I like 25 lap (max) features on a half mile track lol lol lol.

I like Andy Rooney's idea of voting for whoever we dislike the most from now on, with the candidate having the least number of votes winning. Seems more fair...lol.

I love my country but the previous post is right. I'm sick of being lied to. We accept it to be "the way it is" and not to question it. One of our responsibilities as a citizen is to question the government. If we don't there are no checks and balances.

You sit back, look at things and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I'll be a realist and continue to question the people in charge.

Just for the record I was not accusing Duane of lying. I know he posted the story in good faith.

I'm actually a fairly fulfilled feeling type of guy, I just have no use for this administration.

And I don't like the implication that if one disagrees with this administration one is not patriotic.

You do know that I also do not like the way the war deal is going.

I don't like all the lies that have been told to the public by this President and his predecessor.

I do like living in a country that does have all of the good things in life such as TV, Radio, stores full of product at reasonable prices, heat and AC, Sprint Cars and decent roads.

I do like the freedom to say that the president is an idiot without being hunted down and executed on the street AFTER my family was run through a meat grinder while still alive.

American is not perfect, but is sure does seem better than any of the countries I have visited.

Maybe Antarctica would be better Government wise, but they only race there a few times a year.

My life is awesome. But I'm burdened by the knowledge that there are far too many people in America who don't have the same life I have. Those who don't have health insurance or quality healthcare. Those who can't feed themselves or their kids. Those who can't marry the person they love and want to spend the rest of their lives with, simply because somebody else's religion says it's wrong. My life is great, but I'm not so self-centered to believe that because my life is great, *all* Americans have a great life. I care about other people, and even when things are going well for me, I'll work my ass off to help them achieve their goals and their rights as Americans as well. Just because my life is dandy doesn't mean that every single one of my fellow of Americans has it great too.

That doesn't make me a whiner or a spoiled baby. That makes me a human.

You folks live in the greatest country in the world and I've been to a bunch of 'em. The American has done more than his/her share to make the planet a better/safer place over the years but mistakes aren't only reserved for the uneducated. Be happy and watch out for your neighbor, do something good for a stranger every day, even if it is just a hello. 99.9% of you do this anyway, regardless of what you're being told, by BOTH sides.

Patriotism is something misunderstood by the rest of the world, even here in Canada and you folks excell at that much to their chagrin. Just wake up every day and be the BEST you can be, things will be just fine, all the best. Take It Easy.....

"do something good for a stranger every day"

Without expecting something in return. That's the key.

So are you telling me that the EPA has'nt tried to stop Global Warming years ago. I'm just a dumb son of gun with a 10th grade education ( Have GED & CDL) if that makes me any smarter. But by GOD I could get things where they needed to go in a crisis. BTW I'm a little down as the place we work for is losing the Shell account so I won't be sending Kinser, Haud, DEI & others no more Brake Parts Cleaner. We were the best warehouse they had including thier own but they hired a consulting firm that said they would be better off having 3 central locations in Cleveland, Memphis & L.A.. As long as I have my Wife, job, friends & racing life is grand.

or maybe we should quit commiting atrocities worldwide in God's name. There's really not that much of a difference between us and the people we label "terrorists". Excpet that they are actually fighting an INVADING and OCCUPYING force............they sure as hell aren't fighting liberators. Don't get me worng.........everybody should support the troops.........but everybody should be pissed at the government who has used them as a tool to make lots of money.

I think the war in a Iraq was more about Bush irresponsibly wanting to be a hero than to make money. I believe, when he started this thing it was in his head that we were gonna go in there, kick ass, find a whole bunch of WMD's AND plans to attack the U.S., and that everyone was gonna think he was a hero and think he was one of the greatest Presidents ever. It didn't turn out that way though. I remember him making a comment a few years back about how, even though his approval ratings were down history was gonna see him for the great president he truly is or something like that. It really seems kind of childish really. Like delusions of grandeur. It's this kind of selfish desire to place yourself in the history books that leads to terrible things like the war in Iraq. Don Imus might have said something stupid that really did no real harm (except to himself), because he wasn't thinking. But Bush didn't use his head either, and that had much more far reaching consequences. Maybe he should've been fired.

That's the truth. If we could cut the religion out of all this just think how much better EVERYONE would be.
