Entry list shows 47 drivers pre entered in the Gold Cup, Jonathan Allard, and Brad Sweet are here and racing so hopefully there are more drivers, bringing the car count up.

They knew the car count was going to be low this year, thats why all the drivers are racing all 3 nights this year

Another downfall for the WoO having a Goodyear tire deal.

I am not a Goodyear fan by any means, but that has nothing to do with the car count. All the teams that aren't there this year would have probably bought new tires no matter what the brand. I think it has to be the economy. Low car counts, and now the WoO regulars running both qualifying nights, it leaves much less of a chance for the low budget guys to sneak in a decent saturday spot

tires and economy is the same answer...Because of the economy, not many local teams can afford to buy Goodyears for for this weekend...

Let's discuss...
1) All teams/drivers must be WoO members, which costs $125.00.
2) All teams MUST race three nights; in previous GCs, you could pick your night, and a ton of local teams chose Friday, if only to minimize the time lost from work.
3) Three nights means increased expenses for all teams; not all local teams have that kind of money.
4) As others have noted, most teams will be buying new tires for the GC - so a Goodyear rule should have minimal affect on the teams, except that Chico is a "Hoosier" track. Locals, especially 360's(which used to account for 10 or 12 cars), will likely stay home.
So while the WoO having a tire rule will have some affect; there are a lot of other reason for a reduced car count. But if the racing is good, who cares? There's only going to be 24 cars in the A main, anyway....

The GSC has had a reduction in cars the last couple of years.
I think the tire issue and membership fee plays into it for some teams.
It is hard to believe they don't have enough cars for two qualifying nights. Very sad.

I think the Goodyear's have a lot to do with the car count. Plus if I'm hearing correctly the bead on the Goodyear is different than the Hoosier. When you remount the Hoosier the tire will leak because the bead is a different configuration. True or false I don't know. Any thoughts to this? If so that would be a lot of extra money for new rings.

True, the Goodyears have a thicker bead and they distort the bead locks so they can no longer
be used on Hoosiers.

Wow, only 47 pre-entries for the Gold Cup? While it is true that only 24 cars will start the A-main, it still seems like it would be a major letdown to see such a car count at the Gold Cup. I say that as someone that has seen some of the traditional DIRT Northeast Modified biggies suffer car counts that are barely half what they were 12-15 years ago.

Not a letdown at all, more like a relief. In the past there were dozens of 360's and many, many uncompetitive 410's. On a bullring like this it is very easy for an inexperienced guy to take out a big dog. Heck, Steve Kinser flipped while leading last night and I've seen him do that with a lap to go there before and saw Dave Blaney do the same thing. 50 cars at Chico is a great number and seeing the best in the business run all 3 nights makes it even better, kudos to Chico. Take It Easy....
PS I once saw a B-Main there that went a grand total of two laps (before being flagged) with about 4 cautions and 3 reds and the original car that brought out the first caution went to the rear and transferred in 2 laps, true story....
