It was a typical schedule for the
Grand Forks, North Dakota native, Mark Dobmeier as he raced his home track of
River Cities Speedway on Friday night, followed by the long trek to Knoxville
Raceway on Saturday and then back up to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon for Sunday
nights weekly 410 show.
Every year, River Cities Speedway
holds a Track Champion night, in which the winner of the event is crowned the “River
Cities Track Champion,” not to be confused with the typical Track Points
Champion that is calculated at the end of the year.
Friday night was Track Champion
Night for River Cities Speedway and “Dynamite” Dobmeier started out the night
with more confidence as ever; the team’s success there this year has been
second to none, winning 7 of the 13 regular scheduled events.Starting on the inside second row for the
heat race, Dobmeier quickly grabbed second and finished behind heat race winner
Bob Martin in the 10TR car. From the
inside of the third row, Mark raced up to the lead about half-way through the
Main Event, and stayed up front winning his 8th feature event at
River Cities Speedway and was crowned 2010 River Cities Speedway Track
Champion.
“We were fast on Friday,” explains Dobmeier.“River Cities is our home track and it’s where I cut my teeth back when
I first started, so it is a lot of fun to be quick here. Our fans are the best here in Grand Forks,
and whenever we can put on a show like this it makes all of us amongst
Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports feel great!”
Following win number 12 of the 2010
season, it was off to Knoxville, where the team has had both bad and good
luck.Mark began the night qualifying 12th
quick with a 15.331out of the 21 cars and with a third place start in the heat,
Dobmeier dropped back one spot to finish fourth behind Pleasantville, Iowa
native Rager Phillips.
Dobmeier was set to start 13th
for the Main Event, but going into turn one there was a bad wreck involving
seven cars, taking out the Senske & Son Right Choice Electric’s #13 top
wing and rear end.Mark took the car to
the work area, and the dedicated crew worked hard to get the car fixed and was
able to don a new top wing, jacobs ladder and a rear wheel to get the sprinter
back on the race track. The rear axle
was bent, so Dobmeier knew it was going to be a struggle throughout the
remaining laps.
“We just got clipped in that turn
one wreck,” says Mark after finishing 12th in the Main Event.“The guys’ worked their tail off to get the
car fixed during that red, but the rear axle was bent and it was shaking the
car really bad as we raced.I just tried
to hold on and collect as many points as I could, and we ended up with a 12th
place finish. It wasn’t what we were looking
for, but that happens, and when it does you just have to make the best of it!”
Huset’s Speedway was next, and it
was all Dobmeier as he made Quick Time for the third time in a row at the “Home
of the Professionals”, finished fourth to previous week’s race winner Chuck
Mcgillivary in the heat race and set up to start on the pole for the 25 lap
Main Event.
At the drop of the green, Dobmeier
took off and never looked back as he lapped up to fourth place by the time of
the checkered flag.Dobmeier mentions that
he noticed on the scoreboard that the 56 of Johnn Cressman was in second, and that
he could see Johnn going into the corner as he came out, so he knew they were
fast.
The victory at Huset’s Speedway marked
the 13th win of the season for Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports and the
Senske & Son Right Choice Electric #13.
It was the
50th Annual Knoxville Nationals just a couple weeks ago at the famed ½ mile of
Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. It is an event amongst none other in the
ranks of Sprint Car Racing and Grand Forks, North Dakota native, Mark Dobmeier
was there yet another year in hopes of improving...more...
