John,

Are these some of the parts you told me about that you found at that garage sale? Is the lettering done with your computer? Inquiring minds have got to know.

Yes, I bought a big box of model cars and parts (lots of sprint cars). I've been able to salvage the majority of them for new builds. Yes, I'm creating the decals on the computer and printing them on waterslide decal material.

Once I get more cars built, I'm planning on making a display of the front stretch of SFS (pictured below). Allen got me some dirt from the track for the surface, I'm even going to have the Cor Vett Center pace car in it, too.

John,

That sounds great, can't wait to see the finished product. Look at the ole grandstand, looks like it is a full house. That is really "Racing From The Past".

Not to sound stupid, but when was Tony ever the 21 car? Tony's first few years with OFIXCO he was the 12 car then switched to the 11 when he moved up to the supers. Now it has only been 25 years since those days so maybe my memory is shot, but do not ever remember him in the 21.

The older I get the faster I use to be

I'm hoping Tony will confirm, but I have a picture of Shane in the Gambler and Tony is in the OFIXCO car and it has #21 on it. I remembered him in the 12 modified and then the 11 champ car also. There's a picture of Pete Frazier in the 21 on RFTP, too. Maybe someone else has more info on here?

Kyle , was'nt that when Stoney went to Pennsylvania to run and Tony ran the 21 car???

Just unbelieveable that I just drove by the Fairgrounds on May Ave. yesterday and nothing is left. Looking at the pic makes it even more UNBELIEVEABLE!!!.

The car is looking good John, almost ready for powder coat and paint. Looking foreward to seeing the display. It is so awsome that you bring us back the memories at 1/24 scale. I am always amazed with your work.

yes and it was after Pete Frazier moved on. cut back to one car... the cool thing about Tony was that he lettered ALL of the Ofixco cars, trailers, boats, helmets, trucks and it was all paint.....

I have 2 sprint car models that were knocked off the shelf by a nerf football. They are the Steve Stappp car that Pancho Carter drove and the challenger car that Sammy drove, it looks like the one above that you started with. I would be happy to send them to you if you could use them, they are in pieces. I started the Stapp car the year we were married, 976, the kit came with a '53 Ford pickup and a trailer for the car. I do not remember what happened to the truck and trailer. If you would like these models let me know where to mail and what you think would be the best way to package them.

John,

Are you using an airbrush to paint the orange color? When I built one of the Ofixco cars (Ron Shuman) a long time ago I used Testors orange and yellow to get the right color.

Hey Mike, I used Testors out of a can and sprayed it over flat white primer. After I place all the decals and do the weathering I've been spaying a light coat of semi-gloss over the parts. It seems to add some realism so they're not so shiny (looks like they've been sprayed down with WD-40).

John,

Good idea. I'm glad that Testors expanded their bottle paint inventory with some great flat colors. I just wish the bottles were less expensive. I remember paying 5 cents for a bottle. Times have changed and I'm showing my age now.

Thats amazing I know what you started with, the challenger car now it looks like a Nance car. How do bend the parts without breaking?
