A big thank you to everyone who attended our annual Tony Jones/Mark Alexander Racing benefit this past Sunday at the Zanzabuku Sports Lounge in Lakewood. Special thanks goes out to Big Mike of "Surfnsprint" for his donation of several beautiful photos of the "Cowboy" in action at the PAS, So-Cal Performances' Steve Howard, PAS track announcer Chris Holt, Arizona businessman Grady Watkins for his generous donation to the team, Legends of Ascot for donating historic race posters for the raffle, Kenny and Matt from team sponsor Scott Sales, PAS (Tanner Watson) for race tickets, Ventura Raceway (Jammie) for race tickets and Jeff Kristensen of Raceway Video for several packets of sprint car action at PAS.
The ceremonies began around 2 p.m. with Cindy Colbaugh (her maiden name is Alexander) presenting the team with a check for more than $1,500 gained from 50/50 raffles through her hard work each and every Thursday night beginning in May of this year at the Zanzabuku. She thanked everyone who had contributed through the campaign to help the team out and her smile was the brightest of all.
One of the highlights of the warm afternoon was Steve Howard holding the winning 50/50 ticket that was drawn by Sprint Car Hall of Fame Driver Jimmy Oskie. Howard quickly donated his portion of the winnings back to the race team for a grand total of more than $500.
Another highlight involved young Austin Figueroa, who had won several great raffle prizes prior to the final drawing - the die cast model of the 1955 Indianapolis roadster driven by the late Billy Vukovich. You should have seen the look on young Austin's face as he presented his winning ticket to Tony Jones! Congratulations, Austin! BTW, what a great racing family.
The new Tony Jones T-Shirt was a big hit among the crowd and the team will now have them on sale at their trailer following this Saturday night's race. All proceeds go to the race team.
Again, thanks to everyone who made our annual event a huge success.
Edit: We forgot to mention Brett and Brody Roa and Chris and Jake Swanson, who were also present for Sunday's benefit. The Roas brought the #91 Sprint Car (driven by Brody), sponsored by the Zanzabuku Sports Lounge, that competes at Ventura Raceway. Jake and father Chris were unable to bring their USAC Western midget to the benefit as it is in the process of a rebuild. Jake's midget is also sponsored by the Zanzabuku. Thanks guys for all of your help in making our benefit a good one!
