Forgettable Weekend for Simpson Racing
August 23, 2010…Rio Vista, CA…The past weekend of racing for the Simpson Racing team is one they would like to forget. The two race weekend started at the Silver Dollar Speedway Chico, Ca for the weekly 410 sprint car series and then onyo Saturday for Golden State Challenge series concluding their year at the ¼ mile bull ring at Placerville Speedway.
Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway the night started with Danielle Simpson turning a very good lap in qualifying, placing 13th in the 25 car field and Dan Simpson qualifying in the 15th spot. The heat races where up next and Danielle was in the first heat. While racing with Bret Miller for position, the two tangled wheels and Danielle went flipping up the third turn and over the embankment, landing over two hundred feet from the tack on top of the cement wall and chain link fence. She emerged for the car shaken but OK, the car was not, with frame and damage to every corner of the 6up Maxim.
The race team decided to load up the trailers and head back to Rio Vista to build another car for Saturdays Golden State Challenge Series finale at the Placerville Speedway. The night started out great with Dan turning his personal best ever lap at the tight ¼ mile bullring placing him 17th quick out of the 25 car field. Daniele, in a new car after the previous night's crash, put down the 19 quickest lap. A big kudos to the crew who worked all night to build the new car. Heat race action saw both cars finish 8th in their respective heats, which meant both drivers would be in the B-main. Dan started outside row one in the 4s, DryVac, D.E.S. Inc, Flowmaster, Maxim with Daniel starting directly behind her dad in the outside of row two in the 6up, Simpson Percheron, DryVac, D.E.S. Inc ,Flowmaster, Maxim.
During the B-main, Danielle was fighting with Willie Croft for the fourth spot when going into turn one Danielle got up over the rear of the Croft's car and flipped off turn one and her 2nd DNF of the weekend. Dan finished in the third spot and a transfer to the A-main.
Dan would start in the 17th spot for the 30 lap Main and would run up to the 14th position before retiring with no oil pressure and a 21st place finish for the night. In the final Golden State Standings Dan Simpson finished 13th and Danielle, in her rookie year, finished 15th.
Next stop for the Father/ Daughter duo will be the World of Outlaws race at Cottage Grove Oregon on Wednesday, September 1st and then onto the Skagit Speedway on Friday and Saturday, September 3rd and 4th followed by Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA, Monday, September 6th.
