Knoxville Raceway
360 Nationals Night #2
53 cars
Chad Meyer (3rd car out to time) set quick time with the field at 16.681 seconds. Sammy Swindell (29th car out) was second quick, followed by Clint Garner (5th), Darren Long (15th), Jack Dover (4th), Jamie Ball (7th), Danny Wood (43rd), Shane Stewart (31st), Dennis Moore Jr. (6th) and Johnny Herrera (32nd). The track went away quickly, dusting off through the middle.
Heat one (started): 1. Jake Ossenfort 99J (1) 2. Randy Hannagan 22D (4) 3. Jon Agan 4 (3) 4. Dylan Peterson 25 (2) / 5. Ball 5J (5) 6. Meyer 1w (6) 7. Austen Wheatley 44w (7) 8. John Gaston 22J (9) / 9. Colin Entwisle 2T (10) 10. Brian Parker 9* (8) DNS - Mike Hess 18H
The heats were 8 laps and saw the first four head to the A, the next four to the B, and the last finishers to the C. Ossenfort led the first lap before Parker tipped over in turn one. Ossenfort led Peterson, Agan, Hannagan and Ball back to green flag racing. Hannagan used the low side to dispose of Peterson, and then chased down Agan to grab second in the last corner.
Heat two (started): 1. Josh Higday 2 (1) 2. Ryan Roberts 18R (2) 3. Wood 94 (5) 4. Gregg Bakker 11x (4) / 5. Gary Wright 9x (3) 6. Zach Zimmerly 94z (8) 7. Swindell 1s (6) 8. Don Young 7 (7) / 9. Jim Moughan Jr. 1mx (10) 10. Bobby Mincer 14s (9) 11. Joe Riedel 15 (11)
Higday led early. The caution came out on lap three. Wood attempted a slidejob on Swindell for fourth. Swindell took evasive measures getting over the cushion. He would stop and bring out the yellow. Once restarted, he made a couple of swipes at Wood with his car and restarted at the tail. He stopped shortly after green, but ASCS officials determined the caution was coming out anyway for a bad restart so Swindell again restarted at the tail. Higday and Roberts led Bakker and Wood back to green. Wood was able to move by Bakker, while Wright fell short of the final transfer. Swindell advanced to a B transfer spot in 7th.
Heat three (started): 1. Tim Crawley 88 (2) 2. Stewart 57 (5) 3. Bud Kaeding 1x (4) 4. Garner 40 (6) / 5. Dustin Morgan 93 (1) 6. Kyle Sager 20s (3) 7. Chad Heimbaugh 04 (10) 8. Nate Mosher 22N (11) / 9. Preston Peebles II 0c (8) 10. Kevin Ingle 2K (7) 11. Ricky Maiolo 24AU (9)
Crawley led riding the cushion throughout. Stewart and Garner did well to move up into transfers. Stewart was beginning to reel in Crawley towards the end.
Heat four (started): 1. Brooke Tatnell 14T (2) 2. Davey Heskin 56 (1) 3. Long 3G (6) 4. Robby Wolfgang 7K (3) / 5. Jake Peters 57x (4) 6. Jesse Giannetto 10 (8) 7. Dennis Moore Jr. D12 (5) 8. Tony Shilling 47T (7) / 9. Joey Moughan 8H (10) 10. Jon Corbin 9mx (9)
Another stout heat saw Heskin lead lap one, before Tatnell took control on the next go-around. Long impressed with moves by Moore Jr., Peters and Wolfgang for third. Foremer 360 Nationals champs Moore Jr., and Giannetto who battled back and forth with Peters for fifth, headed to the B.
Heat five (started): 1. Rager Phillips 10V (1) 2. Herrera 45x (5) 3. Cale Conley 3c (4) 4. Mitch Olson 98m (2) / 5. Dover 53 (6) 6. Lou Kennedy Jr. 21K (3) 7. Austin Alumbaugh 33A (7) 8. Dave Glennon 5 (9) / 9. Taylor Milton 91x (10) 10. Alan Ambers 93A (8)
Phillips led throughout. The race was mostly single-file after Herrera made a first lap move into second.
C main (started): .1 Peebles (3) 2. Mincer (5) / 3. Ingle (1) 4. Hess (4) 5. Ji. Moughan (9) 6. Jo. Moughan (6) 7. Corbin (7) 8. Riedel (10) 9. Maiolo (2) 10. Entwisle (8) DNS - Parker, Ambers, Milton
Peebles led early on in the 10-lapper. Mincer trailed him the whole race, running low. Peebles ran the faster cushion in turns one and two, and Mincer made up ground on the bottom in three and four. The two traded leads twice in the last two laps. Mincer's car gave way coming down the frontstretch to the checkers, but he nipped Ingle by .03 of a second for the last transfer to the B. However, he would not make the call for the C.
B main (started): 1. Swindell (2) 2. Peters (6) 3. Dover (1) 4. Wright (5) / 5. Young (12) 6. Giannetto (16) 7. Shilling (11) 8. Alumbaugh (14) 9. Ball (4) 10. Zimmerly (13) 11. Kennedy Jr. (7) 12. Sager (8) 13. Wheatley (9) 14. Morgan (10) 15. Mosher (20) 16. Heimbaugh (17) 17. Gaston (15) 18. Moore Jr. (3) 19. Glennon (18) 20. Peebles (19) DNS - Meyer, Mincer
Meyer suffered a problem with the mag on the parade lap and had to surrender his pole starting spot. Swindell took the lead right away in the 12-lapper and started to pull away. On lap five, Moore Jr. was running sixth, when he too suffered an ignition problem and stopped on the backstretch. The restart saw Swindell ahead of Dover, Peters, Wright and Ball. Peters was able to get by Dover, but had nothing for Swindell. Young made a late charge, but came a few car lengths from Wright's transfer spot. Giannetto's charge forward 10 spots was fun to watch.
A main (started): 1. Stewart (5) 2. Herrera (4) 3. Hannagan (3) 4. Swindell (21) 5. Tatnell (15) 6. Heskin (19) 7. B. Kaeding (1) 8. Wood (6) 9. Conley (9) 10. Long (7) 11. Roberts (13) 12. Phillips (20) 13. Agan (10) 14. Wright (24) 15. Dover (23) 16. Higday (18) 17. Wolfgang (11) 18. Bakker (2) 19. Crawley (14) 20. Olson (16) 21. Peters (22) 22. Ossenfort (17) 23. Peterson (12) 24. Garner (8)
Herrera circled the front row to lead the 20-lapper. Hannagan moved into second with Stewart third and Garner up to fourth. Garner's run would end with eight in the books with a motor problem. The caution would see Herrera leading Hannagan, Stewart, B. Kaeding and Wood back to green. Swindell had advanced to ninth. As the laps unfolded Stewart and Hannagan exchanged sliders on the dry-slick track with little left on the bottom. Stewart finally took control of that battle and began to slowly reel in the leader. Herrera manuevered through traffic well. With three to go, Stewart was right on his nerf bar. On the last lap, Stewart found his way by, when Herrera was stuck behind the lapped machine of Olson. The win was Stewart's third 360 tally at Knoxville, paid him $3,000 and put him inside row two for Saturday's feature.
