Brandon Wimmer – Knoxville is Next!

(Bill W) August 6, 2010 – Brandon Wimmer will be switching rides for this week, as he competes at the 50th Anniversary Goodyear Knoxville Nationals in the Alan Barton Motorsports #7TW. The Fairmount, Indiana driver just completed five shows during the All Stars "Thunder though the Plains" in Rick Ferkel's #0 machine. The week will start tomorrow night in 410 weekly competition at Knoxville.

The Western tour for the All Stars started at the newly configured Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo, North Dakota on Thursday, July 29. Brandon crossed the line eighth. "We were up to fourth at one time, and fell back a bit," he says. "I thought we actually crossed seventh, but the scorers had us eighth there."

Three nights at the Huset's Speedway (Friday-Sunday) were up next. Brandon picked up two heat wins and a second in the three nights. "We were qualifying badly at Huset's and that put us at the front of the heats," he says. "That's not a place you want to be when the feature rolls around though."

After self-proclaimed mediocre finishes of 12th the first two nights, Brandon would suffer a DNF in the Huset's finale. "The first night, the top wing was stuck to the front of the car and it slicked off," he says. "We struggled with a vibration all three nights too. That was our biggest problem. We tangled with Greg Wilson the last night."

On Wednesday night, the tour continued at the Butler County Motorplex near Rising City, Nebraska. Brandon was a first-timer there, and was impressed with the track itself. "The track was pretty good most of the night," he says of the banked 3/8 mile oval. "The track was pretty fast, and that made it a little hard to pass at times."

Brandon won his heat after starting third, and drove from 12th to 7th in his best showing in the five days on tour. "We were able to win the heat," he says. "Rick had the car working well. We started 12th in the feature, and we were able to grab another top ten."

This will be Brandon's first outing in the Alan Barton Motorsports #7TW for the 2010 season. "I'm excited about getting to Knoxville," he says. "We haven't been able to run it at all this year, so we're going to run tomorrow night to get everything in place for our qualifying night on Wednesday."
