We owe Warren a big thanks for bringing all of us together. I had never meet Luther but i knew him very well from the e-mails that we traded. Before this site was started I didn't know how to e-mail.

Thanks Warren

Ray

I never met Luther, except through his posts on this forum, but considered him a friend and mentor. His passing is another loss from that last, great age of racing, when a person had to rely on their brain and hands to be a success. I will truly miss his input on this forum, and not having the opportunity to meet him in person.

My condolences to his family.

Just think if they had computers back in the 60s 70s and 80s were guys like Luther Brewer could have input what they know about Race Cars were we could read that stuff now...Luther was like a computer he remembered every part he ever made, and could tell you were he bought it,, or found the stuff to make the part, or were he got the idea for it..And alot of the ideas he came up with..

One thing about Luther was if he was Racing and his car got beat,,he was like a kid in a candy store looking at the car that beat him...He was on it...And if he had to build the part it was built..And he did it by Eyeballing the car every inch if that is what it took from a distance...He had an amazing eye for measurments.

Just like alot of guys ask how did them guys run like that with no power steering in them cars back then......Luther would take the King Pin out and hit it with a Hone untill the King Pin would slide right in it tight and smooth..Then you take the King Pin and dip it in Oil ,,or as Luther called it his special Luke Lub,,,, and put it in and bolt it up.You could turn the wheel with your pinky if it was right..

We were at the CARB banquet in Feburary when Luther was been inducted..A kid came in and said i cant find my Grandfather in any of the books the CARB had there of the old racers..Luther asked the kid who his grandfather was..The kid told him..Luther set down and went in a big thick book and started looking ..Luther found the kids Grandfather standing in the back ground of one of the photos..It made that kids day..I asked Luther about it,,he said i knew that guy he was always around somewhere..

Luther Brewer was a Roll Models,,, Roll Model.....Anybody could better themselves as a person by watching him for a day...And they just might learn alot.about Race Cars and being a good guy...

Like many of you, I never met Luther personally, but he was always quick to share his knowledge with me (I am researching and collecting/restoring parts to build a replica dirt track roadster originally campaigned by Jerry Gilbert - #19). He made history in racing and worked to keep it alive. My sympathy to his family. A true great and legend in the sport of racing.

Found this is a Hosehead Press Release, thought it would fit here.

"We all have that favorite uncle in which we all wanted to grow up someday and be just like. Mine was Uncle Luther. As a young boy in the 60's my family would follow him all over the Kansas City area. From Lakeside, Riverside, Paola, Westline, Topeka, Sedalia,Olympic to Drexel cheering on #97. I have been reading some of the blogs and viewing this site for a while, I know a lot of you remember him and his racing career. He was very proud of being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He past on July 26th in the evening.I just want to say to his friends Thank You. And to say to my Uncle Luther we will miss you. There was no one like him, at the track or at home." Larry Sumner
