Shake Up Jacob – Homework

NEWTON (July 21, 2010) – After a couple of weekends of sticking close to home, it was back to Iowa for the Ossenfort Racing team.

Friday would have the team unloading the trailer at Rock Rapids Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Jacob drew chip number eighteen, putting him mid-pack to start off the night.

Jacob started in the fourth place position for his heat race. He worked hard to ward off the competition but the changing track conditions had other plans. “We thought we had the track pegged for what it would turn into, but we ended up with too much stager and a bar that was too soft.” Jacob said. The #99J finished the race with an eighth place finish. “Instead of making one smooth corner, I was making at least two. I was fighting more of the car than I was the competition.” Jacob had to say of the race.

After taking in the track the Ossenfort Racing team decided to make some changes for the B-Main, hoping to tame the car and tough out the track. With conditions changing by the lap, it was up to Jacob to get the Knology #99J where it needed to be. “There wasn’t much room for passing, as the track was a one lane groove all the way around and turn 3 had a nasty bump that everyone was trying to slide below.” Although the track still wasn’t cooperating for the team, Jacob brought home a seventh place finish, snagging himself the last transfer spot to the A-Main event.

It was more changes on the #99J. “After a few practice rounds in the heat and the B-Main, I felt better about the track. I was starting to figure it out and ready to prove it!” Jacob had to say. The Knology #99J, took the green flag on the last row, starting in the twenty-second position and finished the night with well deserved ninth place, earning him the title of “Hard Charger” for the night’s main events. “We left the car a little more to the loose side and I’m sure glad we did. It was quite a thrill to know that I was finally making the track work for me.” Jacob had to say of the A-Main.

Saturday morning had the team traveling to Knoxville Raceway, in Knoxville, Iowa, where earlier in the year, Jacob made his first appearance on their radar. However, it would prove to be a tough night for the #99J. “Qualifying was just ridiculous. The car was far from where we needed it to be, but we learned some quality lessons which helped us prepare it for the heat.” Jacob started the heat in the tenth position, unfortunately the #99J didn’t have enough time to put his lessons to the test. Contact between the #55 of Ian Madsen and the #7TAZ of Tasker Phillips would turn into chaos, gathering up the #99J along the way. “We made some good changes and I felt like I was going to be really fast. It was disappointing but sometimes that’s just racing.” A sore Jacob had to say. (Here is the link to Jacob’s ride: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=knoxvilleraceway#p/u/1/opRq3DcLaXU)

“Going to Knoxville is always a great time and with the 360 Knoxville Nationals not too far away, it was good for us to get back there and do a little homework. We learned a few new lessons which are nothing for us to complain about as we get prepared. We’ll be back and we’ll be ready.” Jacob said of his experience at the Knoxville Raceway.

The Ossenfort Racing crew will be taking a weekend off this weekend but you can be sure to find them out on the track soon!
