from Eldora PR:

STEWART ADDRESSES ELDORA TRACK CONDITIONS

ROSSBURG, OH (April 17) -- “It just wasn’t right, and we intend to fix it”, is how Tony Stewart summed up the first night of racing at his Eldora (OH) Speedway. Tony’s dedicated crew put in many long hours over the winter months in an ambitious construction project to address last year’s criticism of one-groove racing on the historic one-half mile clay oval.

That project involved a tremendous amount of clay being hauled in and a lot of heavy equipment shaping the clay into form. Deep into the project, the inclement weather that inundated the Midwest handcuffed the preparation. Finding nice days to work on the surface came at a premium, and for several days leading up the onset of the season, heavy rains and wet snow hampered the finishing touches.

Stewart summed up the situation as “going into our first race, there was some uncertainty. We were pleased with the work that had been done, but there was still the unknown. That is why, even after mid-week cold temperatures forced a cancellation of our April 7 race, we wanted to still hold an open practice session that afternoon. Unfortunately it got snowed and frozen out, so we entered the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint race on April 13 with a untested race track.”

He continued, “none of us were satisfied with the results and we will improve it. We all know that what separates Eldora from every other race track in the Nation are three things - speed, slide jobs and bravery, as the drivers run on the ragged edge of the high banks, pushing the right rear tire as close to the outside wall as humanly possible. We intend to get it back that way.”

With that said, crews, under the direction of General Manager Larry Kemp, have been working daily on the race track. Stewart and Kemp are confident that with some weather cooperation the job can be completed quickly.

They both agreed, “give us some time, and we’ll get it right - in fact, we’re not quitting until it is right.”

Eldora’s next event is slated for Saturday, April 28, with the United States Auto Club (USAC) non-winged Sprints appearing for leg number two of the Curb Records Border Wars event

Okay, let's hear from all the whiners now!!!Smile

Give the crew at Eldora a break. A brand new racing surface that they hardly had time to work on prior to the first race? What did you expect??

It hasn't been right for the past 2 years!! Hmmm......maybe that's why they brought in new clay?????

I want it like it was in 1968. Not gonna happen Buckwheat!!! Maybe you should check your calendar; it's 2007. Opp, Wolfie, Sammy, Scruffy....only 1 of them runs anymore, and that darn seldom.

This isn't Earl's place anymore, it's Tony's. So cut him some slack and maybe it'll be better than ever.

Still want to complain?? Maybe you should get your hiney out there and do it yourself, because obviously you know all the answers from behind your keyboard.wink

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.

Thanks to Tony for keeping us all informed about what's going on. Nothing like hearing straight from the top! Thanks also for caring about the history and also the future of Eldora as much as many of us fans. It's obvious Eldora is more than a financial thing for Tony, it's a passion. I truly hope they can get things to where the racing is what we have come to expect from Eldora over the years.

...WHAT ?!...you mean they really aren't gonna try and keep it the way it was last week...I thought for sure Stewart would just piss on the legacy of Eldora and not do anything to address the issue...at least thats what the "EXPERTS" told me he would do...

BRR - I doubt you will leave disappointed!! I expect another great Kings Royal....minus the midnight grading, watering, and running in of the track of course.

I applaud Tony, Larry K., and Larry B. - they won't let this little setback wreck the season.

Track prep has been close to zero for the last few years, last weekend wasn't the first time there was a problem. It was the first time they had a convenient excuse with new dirt though. If Larry K. thinks that running the track in until dust is flying is what works then I am very leery anything will change, this has been the norm since he took over. Gene Frankart is about an hour up the road, if he isn't contacted for advice then somebody is making a BIG mistake, it is painfully obvious the job hasn't been done properly for some time now! Take It Easy...

Actually I qualify now because I don't go to many races like you, Hawker and the other expert wannabees who get most of their info from a computer, lol. But not to worry BRR, I have still forgot more about what goes on in this sport than you'll ever know. Take It Easy....

and you will continue to forget as you fade into the sunset. glad you could make it to a race this year...i have been to several already.

from David Byrne and the Talking Heads:

Once in a Lifetime
-----------------------

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful
wife
And you may ask yourself-Well...How did I get here?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

And you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...

Water dissolving...and water removing
There is water at the bottom of the ocean
Carry the water at the bottom of the ocean
Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean!

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

And you may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
And you may ask yourself
Where does that highway go?
And you may ask yourself
Am I right?...Am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/in the silent water
Under the rocks and stones/there is water underground.

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
