All I can say is...Wow!
Congratulations to the Cardey / Blair team on tonights win at Victorville Auto Raceway!
David started on the front row, yet within only a few laps fell to fourth behind Seth Wilson, Rickie Gaunt, and John Aden. Using the cushion, he slowly reeled in and passed Aden, then set his sights on Wilson...but the laps were winding down. With only a handful of laps to go, we all thought he'd have to settle for a respectable third...Gaunt was way out in front and Seth was a strong second. Using sheer determination and lapped traffic, he caught and passed Wilson, but with only one more circuit remaining, Super Rickie was a half lap ahead.
Unfortunately for me, I looked away as a car spun in turn two (and a gentlemen falling in the grandstand right in front of me) distracted me. I turned my head away from the battle for the lead at the wrong time! As the white laundry flew, David had miraculously gained on the Miller 66 down the back stretch and pulled alongside in the final corner. I was told it was a nail-bitin', side-by-side drag race off of turn four. The computer scored Dynamite Dave the winner by fractions of a second over Gaunt.
One of the best races I've seen all year (which is starting to sound like a broken record lately with David pulling off these crazy last lap efforts to steal the money).
If you haven't been to Victorville Auto Raceway yet, you are missing out on a heck of a show! The Gibsons had the water truck circling the banked oval all night. What looked like a track doomed to be a rutted dust bowl in practice actually turned out to be a multi-groove, super-racey, awesome surface, which set the stage for another legendary battle between some of the West Coast's best shoes.
Once again, I'm totally elated...checkers fell early...very few crashes...great weather...neat rainbow over the racetrack most of the night...good food...cheap admission...happy 2-year-old son (who got to ham-it-up in the cockpit of the #12 after the races)...and no traffic headaches...home before the wolves were howling in the canyon...

Couldn't agree more, Bushey, with one small exception.
I believe Cardey was several car lengths BEHIND as they came into four, Gaunt went to the bottom fearful of a slide and stymied by traffic, couldn't fully stand on it. Cardey went high, perfect diamond off the top, came down with massive acceleration to the bottom and did one of his weird time and space suspensions and made up several car lengths between four and the checkers! I was standing in the infield right in front of the flagstand and he won by one ply of Hoosier rubber (although I sure couldn't tell).
A gentleman named David Blair from "Four Videos Racing" was taping right next to me (fourvideosracing.com). I hope he got it. He says he posts on YouTube. He asked me after the race "who was that masked man?"
I asked Cardey, "what the hell were you thinking coming out of four?"
"I had a shot."
You are right, Doug, one of the best races I have seen all year. Congratulations to Mike Gibson and that awesome track. Rickie Guant was perrrfffect, David Cardey is currently in another dimension.

That same gentleman distracted me also. If he was a sprint car racing fan he would have been watching the race rather than getting in to position for a photo op of the the people he was sitting with.

It's great to see such a positive post...race teams and promoter seem to have busted their buts to give the fans and example of what 'great ' Sprint car racing is all about...team Blair combined with Cardey seem to be formidable ...maybe unbeatable [at least at Victorville]. Congratulations to Don Blair,Jim,and David..it's great to see that 12 car in the winners circle again!

Congratulations to David Cardey! I thought Aden was headed back for Indiana Sprint Week? Does he still plan on making the rest of the week?
