I've got a giant new column concerning a three-week eastern adventure and some thoughts on the passing of Rocket Hockett at http://www.openwheeltimes.com Click on Shadow of the Rocket.

Wow, what an amazing column. I loved reading all the Northeast Modified references throughout the column. I realize everything is relative, but I actually like Fonda. With the covered grandstand, the funky shape and the history of dirt Modified racing's glory days, it has a Flemington-like feel to the place. The only two weekly Modified tracks still going that instantly bring back memories of the '70s and '80s for me are Middletown and Fonda. All that aside, I have not been to Fonda is seven or eight years because the track became a prison track that does not allow for re-entry.

Thanks boys. I didn't know Ric Lucia doesn't allow people to go to the parking lot. That would have been an issue, unless they serve Yuengling, which I doubt.

The totalitarian re-entry policy at Fonda was not always that way under the Lucia regime. The Fonda re-entry policy has been debated ad nauseum on a couple of the New York Modified boards. Seems to be a huge dispute over whether the policy came about to reduce parking lot drinking/vandalism or as a payback to the Dairy Bar ice cream store located across the street that refused to sponsor a night of racing.
