Flip ends Stephen Allard’s night in Chico
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA - April 16, 2007... Chico’s Stephen Allard was running solidly in the top 10 at Silver Dollar Speedway Point Race #3 when contact sent the 1m Racing Rocket upside down in turn two. Stephen and the team were coming off a season best third place finish during the last outing in Chico and on Friday looked to be on path for another good finish when an unfortunate incident put an end to the night.
Stephen came out seventh in the qualifying order and his quickest lap of 12.019 placed the Finley Farms, Cross Creek Trucking, JP’s Paint and Body No. 1m 10th fastest out of 30 cars. The top 10 effort was Stephen’s best at Silver Dollar Speedway this season and gave him an outside second row starting spot for his heat race.
The two front row starters in the heat weren’t evenly aligned as they crossed the box in turn four on the first start and officials sent them to the back. It moved Stephen up to the front row and he blasted into the lead as the green flag came out. SA had the 1m Racing machine hooked up and pulled away from the field to pick up the heat race win in the Platinum Powder Coating, Graph X Design, Miller’s Glass, Chico Bail Bonds Rocket.
The 25 lap feature saw Stephen line up on the inside of row five in the ninth position. Stephen settled into seventh after a handful of laps and battled with Andy Gregg for sixth before the pair made contact and flipped in turn two. Damage was too severe to continue and Stephen was scored in 17th place.
Next up for Stephen and 1m Racing will be Silver Dollar Speedway Point Race #4 on Friday. Stephen will go into the fourth point race sitting ninth in the current Silver Dollar points standings, 27 behind leader Jason Statler.
