I'm trying to get some information on Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, SD. It doesn't appear that they have a web site. Are they racing sprint cars there? What night do they race? Will they be racing on July 9-11? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

huh, thier page must have expired, I couldnt find it either , I know they went through new ownership recently (maybe over the winter), talking with locals , I believe they run Friday nights, they have a BHS sprint ? anyway, a 360 sprint , I thought ASCS heads were legal but had to be sleeved even farther down than the 2-3/16" ? Ive looked over the rules a few times but couldnt find a double header weekend worthy of our drive ,(8hrs) also heard a good tow purse ? Ive never personally raced there, or watched a event , track looks big (well 1/2 mile) , I might try take one in this year? Sorry , I have no fact here, just buncha gobbilty gook ? like I said, Ive just discussed with common locals, not big race fans, drivers, owners ya better follow up with somebody that knows more specifics?

I have made the 5 hour haul twice from Denver. It is a functioning track with two lengths...the 1/2 had/has not been used for many years. Both times I was there...once with ASCS and once with the WoO they raced on the inner 1/3 mile. One of the darkest facilities I can remember ever shooting at. Cool layout though with tiers of rings around the track that people back their pickups to for seating. Last I know their normal race night was Friday...and website wise...the one I did see at some point was totally without useful information....ie pretty sure it was done by a third grader.

Strange find there on the VERY old 1/2 mile...walking along and found a $5 bill half sticking out of the dried dirt...looked like it had been there for a decade!

If you wanna go out for something...they race motorcycles there flat track style during bike week.

That place was an incredible 1/2 mile in the 80's. I know it has been shortened since. I saw an amazing sprint car performance by Bill Liebig in maybe 1981or 82?. He lapped up to 2nd in a 20 car field. The cool thing about it was running laps at track record pace the entire feature. Usually with a huge lead as a fan you are looking for best race on the track but you couldn't take your eyes off the shear speed of the leader. The place was bad fast for late models as well. Randy Schilling drove a new wedge late model to victory too many times. Rules were changed midseason to try to nuetralize the "Super 8 Special". I believe it won 8 straight features against really good competition.

Results appear on speednetdirect.com

Either BH or BHR, can't remember which. They are usually a little late.

Prior to the 2008 season, the 1/3 was removed and racing has resumed racing on the 1/2.

As far as a doubleheader, last year's promoter Billy Keester is reopening the old Belle Fourche track. Opening night is tomorrow, weather permitting. They run 360 Sprints every Saturday. Website is www.buttecountyspeedway.com

I was depressed to see sprints wernt running in BHS (june 25th) the weekend I was panning on being in the area, thanks for the tip, I might have to make the small trip to Bell Fourche To check them out, Im under the assumption the same rules apply fron BHS sprints -thunder sprint series to Bell Fourche cars? what is the size of the track there? thanks

Belle Fourche is said to be a 4/10, long and skinny. They ran one ASCS Rocky Mountain Tour race in 1999, the only race ever run there.

The only classes that race weeky at BHS are the Streets, B Mods and Super Stocks. The A Mods, Late Models, and 360s share time there, with the Sprints getting the lion's share. They had 12 cars last week, excellent considering the remoteness of Rapid City.

I would assume the 360s at Belle Fourche are running the same rules as Rapid City. The BF promoter is Billy Keester, who promoted BHS the last 2 years, plus he's a former Sprint Car standout himself.
