---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Oxnard, CA 6-7-10) Ventura Raceway returns to action this Saturday June 12, with the second Flat Track Race of 2010. On that night we will feature Vintage and Modern Flat track motorcycles and quad racers racing around a specially prepared oval track for flat track fans and a infield track that has jumps and bumps to satisfy the off road fans. Classes will vary from vintage bikes to modern bikes for amateur racers. There is also a Pro Open race for the top riders in the area.

Saturday’s race continues a long tradition of motorcycle racing at Ventura Raceway that began over 30 years ago when it was home of some of the best speedway racing in California. For many years Tuesday night was the night that featured the best speedway riders of the era in fast and furious competition. Riders such as Bobby Schwartz, Bruce Penhall, Alan Christian, Mike Bast and a host of other made Ventura Raceway the place to be for the best speedway action. Speedway action ended in 1986 and Ventura took a short time off from motorcycle racing. Then in the early 1990’s, Ventura Raceway began a five year series of Motocross/Off Road events that featured outstanding stadium type off road action. Over 140 riders, in classes from amateur to professional, were often in attendance flying over the jumps and bumps. Kyle Lewis and Randy Moody staged many extreme competitions against each other as they raced over the double and triple jumps on the Ventura course.

Nineteen years ago, Ventura Raceway held its first vintage flat track event. Since then the yearly event has been home to some of the best in vintage and pro riders racing in classes seldom seen by many spectators in Ventura County. This program has grown into an event eagerly looked forward to by fans and racers across California. Over the years, many bikes that could be seen only in collections competed in the vintage classes. Tonight’s event will feature over 100 riders racing in vintage and modern era machines on oval and off road type tracks. Our final Flat track event at Ventura Raceway will take place on September 4, when we stage our final motorcycle event of 2010.

Pit gates open at 12 Noon with rider’s meeting at 2:30 and then on the track at 3:00 for practice and racing will begin at 5:30. Admission for this event is $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors, military and juniors with kids 12 and under free. For more information call Ventura Raceway at 805-985-5433.
