Mark
Dobmeier - First, Second and Third!
05/17/10
“It was just a good strong weekend,” according to
Grand Forks, ND native Mark Dobmeier as he came off the weekend
with a win at Knoxville, a third at Huset’s and a second place
finish in River Cities. “It’s weekends like these that really
make it fun for the entire team. We have been doing our
homework and working very hard to keep this Senske & Son Right
Choice Electric #13 towards the front of the pack.”
It all started this past Friday with a run from the
tail of the heat to the front at River Cities Speedway in Grand
Forks, North Dakota and then starting on the inside of row number
five in the main event to make it up to second right behind Bob
Martin, the driver of the 10TR machine.
“We had a good run in the feature,” says
Dobmeier. “The track was a little funky, but we charged
forward and battled with Bobby (Martin)…he was fast and had
everything going right for him. We were side by side when a
yellow came out with three to go, then I just about ran out of fuel
and couldn’t get the car going on the restart.”
After the second place run at River Cities, it was off
to one of the most famous ½ miles in sprint car racing, Knoxville
Raceway.
Dobmeier qualified 10th quick out of a
field of 31 and lined up 3rd for the start of the heat
race. He battled with Lynton Jeffery, and managed to move the
Senske & Son Right Choice Electric #13 up just one spot to
finish second in the heat.
Mark started on the pole in the main event and got a
few challenges early on, but he kept the car up front and when the
rubber came down, it was all about consistency and keeping the car
in the groove. Dobmeier led the 20 lap contest from flag to
flag, nailing down his first win of the season at Knoxville which
was his first win there since the 2008 season.
“It feels so good to win here,” exclaims Mark.
“We started this year with a goal to win races here and keep
ourselves in the hunt for the championship…this is a great way to
start! The crew had an awesome car for me, I can’t thank
everyone enough for this win.”
Following the win at Knoxville, the team traveled back
north to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD, and started the night out
right with a 2nd place time in qualifying.
“The track was almost 100% better than the last time we
were here,” explains Mark. “The track crew did a good job
working the track in and getting it ready for racing once
again. We started sixth in the main and we were able to make
it up to third; the front two guys were just too far gone by the
time we were able to get there.”
This weekend was a success for Lunstra/Dobmeier
Motorsports and the team hopes that it is just the beginning to
another great year. So far this season, Dobmeier has nailed
down six top three finishes out of the seven races the team has
entered.
