How do you go about obtaining it? Is it for download only?

Yes, it takes a little over an hour to download. At least it did for me.

Question on this: If you download the game off the PS3 Network, do you need a internet connection every time you try to play it? Not talking online multiplayer, but I wasn't sure if there's some kind of DRM activation that needs to go online or not.

No. Once you have it, it's on your hard drive.
And you can save the $20 and just play the Ratbag game. I got it last night and wish I didn't. Too "arcadey" for me. The motor sounds odd, the "trophies" you earn are odd, the track mysteriously went away visually to the point of near blindness, for which I was awarded the Blind Mice trophy or some crap.
I liked the L to R tearoff detail though. It takes mud away from L to R as opposed to just making it disappear and leaves the "non-tearoff" portion muddy.
First time out, with default settings, I was fast time by 3/4 second, won my heat going away, won the dash and won the main in which I was near blind. I'm hoping it gets harder the further along I go because it sucks right now.
Meh, it's $20. Download it and see for yourself.

its true! its the same as the xbox version! its ashame, but its cool to have a new sprint car game tho. i hope the guys at big ant stuidos will fix some of these things with the dlc patch. they post over on the wgmb and have said they are taking our input and thoughts to put towards improvements for this and possibly a 2nd release down the line!
