While I personally have no problem with Imus and his statement's about the Rutgers basketball team, I DO believe that it wasn't appropriate for over the air broadcasting. Actually, I have a problem with a lot of things going out over the air on radio and TV from a standards point of view. I can remember a time when a radio DeeJay had to have an FCC Operator's License and follow a code of ethics or risk getting in big trouble. Obviously, things have changed in today's world. I say things in private that I'd never say on a broadcast. I believe broadcasters should be held to higher standards.
Now that I've said that (and the Imus thing has nothing at all to do with the First Amendment), I will say that the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion by people like Jackson, Sharpton and even Vivian Stringer, the Rutgers coach. There does seem to be a double standard in who gets held to the fire in these instances. It also gives people like the Reverends a chance to push their agenda and to try to blackmail the corporate world into giving their "cause" some play.
I think what Imus said was stupid. I also think it was taken completely out of context from the overall discussion from which it came and the reaction has far exceeded the transgression.

Every time Chris Rock or some other black comedian says "nigger", "nappy" or "ho", I want Jackson and Sharpton to rain thunder on their ass! Yea right!
If this post isn't results, stories or something c
constructive, it isn't me!

I thought he was way out of line. He wasn't talking about some welfare case, he was talking about girls that played for the national championship at a good college.

BillW beat me to the point. It is amazing to me watching HBO for example how many black comedians can stand on stage in front of a black audience dropping the "N" bomb like it's going out of style and other racial slurs and the audience laughs their ass off, jumping up and down, high fiving each other, amazing.
Let Michael Richards drop an "N" bomb on some hecklers who got back what they gave, and he has to get sesitivity counseling, and they want Imus's career. Enough is enough already. tell these people to police themselves and they will begin to solve the problem. We're the last of their worries, and maybe that's the problem.

the first time i heard the n-word "nappy" was here...talking about being po and hangin with hoodlums...gettin whoopins...psrawlin graffitti...summing up a total stereotype...from a BLIND GUYS PERSPECTIVE. imagine what Mr. Wonder would have had to say if he could actually see what a quality head of hair looks like?
pretty clear that brother Al and Unlce Jesse are too busy booking trips for their riot bus to buy a Stevie Wonder record.
Looking back on when I Was a little nappy headed boy Then my only worry Was for Christmas what would be my toy
Even though we sometimes Would not get a thing We were happy with the Joy the day would bring
Sneaking out the back door To hang out with those hoodlum friends of mine Greeted at the back door With "boy thought I told you not to go outside," Tryin' your best to bring the Water to your eyes Thinkin' it might stop her From woopin' your behind
I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ev-er have to go I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ev-er have to go Cause I love them so
Brother says he's tellin' 'Bout you playin' doctor with that girl Just don't tell I'll give you Anything you want in this whole wide world Mama gives you money for Sunday school You trade yours for candy after church is through
Smokin' cigarettes and writing something nasty on the wall (you nasty boy) Teacher sends you to the principal's office down the wall You grow up and learn that kinda thing ain't right But while you were doin'it-it sure felt outta sight
I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ev-er have to go I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ev-er have to go

Also, regarding the comment Imus made... wasn't he reacting to the comment made by the producer, who called the team " ho's " first?

SO if Limbaugh or Hannity had said something like that, how many on here would be calling for their jobs???? I guess I am tired of the 2 biggest racists (Al and Jesse) in the country being taken seriously anymore.

When words that are allowed to be spoken are dependant upon the race of those speaking them, that is as racist as anything there is.

Not to throw gasoline on a fire but, I do seem to recall when Jesse Jackson was attempting a run for the White House in the 1980's made a comment that New York city was a "hymie town". Oh well, selective memory loss can be a wonderful thing!

Hey! Hey! This is a sprint car forum! You can't say that! Now they should ban you unless you change that to throwing methanol on a fire!

Yeah, pretty soon Al and Jesse will probably be protesting that the USA still calls our Capitol building the White House, too. LOL (could'nt resist, after all, this is a "race" forum)
Fire, methanol... good one, Rogue9!!! LOL

just spelling it the way it sounds. just like they are teaching the nappy headed little urban kids. lmao. i bet imus thought he was throwing them bitches a compliment. and if it had come from mr. "chapelle" they would have taken it as one. but now he has jesse jackass and al sharp-tongue up his butt. but that's ok, anus, i mean imus is a big enough asshole to accomodate them both.
