Some of us are old enough to remember when someone said "wing" you thought they were talkin' about fried chicken!

Kenny, ignore him. He's a Webb/Katich joke account/plant.
Back onto topic. Some of you folks need to visit us in Northern Ohio(fremont/attica). The racing has been incredible all year. A few weeks ago Dean Jacobs got into a first lap altercation, had to start tail and almost won it. The heats have been great all year also which is something that even I would admit is something that's usually lacking in winged racing.
The quality of racing up here has been high enough to win anyone over. Wing or Nonwing has nothing to do with it. The quality of track prep and the size of the track seems to have much more to do with how good the racing is in my opinion. Some are claiming that the new tires are having an effect also. I have no idea. I just know that it's been a great year so far.

sideways = sideforce, can't have one without the other...

Great pic, not exactly what would be called "sideways". The Western Worlds had both , real sprint cars and winged sprint cars and the racing was very good in both in fact it would have been hard to say one was better than the other

1. Seldom do winged cars go sideways anymore. Why? Huge so-called "advances" in wings, tires and engines. 2. Track prep has become a lost art to many, as these cars really prefer a hard, slick surface that takes rubber 3. A whole generation of fans have been brought up and marketed a concept that somehow winged cars and participants are superior; the good ones can drive both 4. much of this wing fever has its origins from when Knoxville went winged after fatalities in the earl 80's and the fact that it became the self-proclaimed capital of sprint car racing via TV 5. There are those who do not seem to understand they are being "Madison Avenued" by marketers with little real understanding of the roots of sprint car racing. All of this seems analogous to those people who are NASCAR fans because of marketing, TV, etc. with little or no long term experience with racing. For a little intervention therapy try Indiana Sprint Week!

I can say i went to the best race ever seen in nonwing action.
MacTexas is right, and you can "say" whatever you want; but if you'd have seen the race's that I've seen at Ascot, Manzy, and other tracks since I was a baby at old Carroll Speedway, you my friend would have to agree. Not to put down TnT, but when you've seen the CRA boy's tangle with the USAC guy's for as many years years as some of us have (up till this merger) you'd know how silly that statement was.
This was Manzy, a real Sprint car track! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZqGbrj87Jk

not sure its really your place to judge what he thinks was the best race ever. I mean, we all have those few races we think were the best in the world - and us hardcore fans are spread all over the place - not many of us at any of those shows.
All that matters at the end is when a paying customer leaves they are thrilled and happy. I've seen some ASCS shows in this area that I could have swore I had seen the best race in the country that night - but I dont know everythink going on at every track and fans felt about that. Maybe that same night there was a NW race in Indiana that was a barn burner - or maybe a thrilling race at Farmington or Lake Ozark - or maybe PA had some amazing races.
I think the only thing that matters is that the fella you are replying to felt that he saw an amazing race that night. same as me - of course I hope every race going on every weekend is very exciting and thrilling for the fans - no matter the series or hp. I've seen some awesome micro sprint races at I-44 Speedway (1/6th mile high banked red clay) - last year of all the SFS weekly shows and ASCS shows all over the place I went to - the 3 best races I saw were at I-44 and many of those great races were put on by kids not old enough for drivers licenses lol. liked em enough that I chase micro racing around as much as I do ASCS or anything else. And actually taking all the quality of the shows together - ON AVERAGE I see better micro sprint racing in Oklahoma than I do sprint car racing (most tracks that run sprints here frankly suck most of the time). Whereas Port City (basically a huge micro hub up there) is really good and track wise - I'm about 1 of maybe a handful of people that think I-44 Speedway is the best actual track in Oklahoma. Those that prefer other tracks - I wouldn't call them wrong. It's all in our own perspective's. eye of the beholder. I just hope when it's round and covered in dirt - those who go see it enjoy the show!

My reply was about the whole context of his post, and if you notice he had a big BUT in there. He's saying he saw the best race that they've ever had, BUT it ain't't nothin compared to my winged stuff. I stand by my post!.. Again, he was just using that race to judge it against all the winged stuff they have in that area, and overall he judged non wing as inferior by it...Fine, but I disagree, and I saw the best that ASCS has to offer at the Western World last November, and uncountable other winged races throughout the years. Actually the best winged stuff I've ever seen was up in Skagit in the mid to early 80's, and they still run there every Saturday night. Heavy track, and smaller wings and tires back then had those boy's hanging it out big time in the turns. That was before they had them locked down so tight. Oh!, and you would have loved the Super Mods they ran with them, very much like what we ran in AZ, and Oklahoma back in the day. Some were so nice that at time's they would put a dove tail on, and run with the modified sprints.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

This whole concept of 'wings vs. nonwings', or '410s vs. 360s' is pretty much meaningless. Many of us have seen great shows of each variety as well as clunkers of each show. It's all good, and we're all Sprint Car fans, so we can all have our favorites but try and appreciate the sport as a whole.
