Has anyone seen the Danny Drinan crash at Springfield in 1992 on You Tube? OH MY GOD! It's been a long time since I have seen it, Hard to believe he survived this. Not sure how to attach a video but I am going to give it a try

Wow, that was a tumble and a half. About a dozen rolls in 2 seconds.

Adding $6 trillion of debt in his 1st term and now if
elected again he wouldn't have to worry about an
electorate in 2016 so the sky is the limit. And his EPA
would continue to put the screws to oil drilling and
mining for coal. Can you say bankruptcy.

Amazing that he was okay... I wonder if there is any footage out there of Jackie Howerton's horrendous sprint car crash at Terre Haute back in the 70's. I believe he flipped 21 times, all the way down the back stretch from what I remember.

That was a Midget, not a Sprint Car, and Danny was far from OK! In fact he was dead (not breathing) when they got to him. He was revived on the way to the hospital. It's been commonly called "a near fatal accident, and it took him a very long time to recover, and more than a few were surprised he got back in again....You guy's who've been around for awhile must remember that Danny was in the same league with Tony Stuart until that accident. He did drive competitively after the crash, but you could see he was never the same after it. He did have had 3 shot's at the Indy 500 after the crash, (didn't make it) but his cars were outdated and not competitive.

Danny is another AZ boy who moved back to Indy to "make it" with USAC, and he also become a mechanic and fabricate for Hemelgarn Indy car team... Ryan Newman was driving a Drinan pavement car when he won the Silver Crown Champ Car title.

What about Tracy Hines' crash? Can't remember if he got burned in that crash. I seem to recall him flipping down most of the front stretch - arms flailing.

Danny Drinans crash is why Bill Simpson started the rewebbing and insection for the belts program.in the crash the seat belts were fatigued and failed, notice Dannys arms and head out side of the top of the cage.

...how about Corey Krusman at Sacramento Mile.I think there's a you-tube of that flip.He turned hard right at the drop of the green down the front strait. After starting on the pole.It was a very wild one.

Danny's wreck was really nasty.Open wheel had some amazing photo's of that crash shortly after. It was cool to see him at the chili bowl still loving the midgets.

Mack Mclland at PIR down the front strait was one to remember on ESPN Thursday night thunder.

Videographers, photographers, please help me. This is video I shot. I sold the rights to Lingner Productions to be used one time on thier program "Speedweek". How is that someone else has the right to put it on Youtube? Can anything that has been aired on TV be taped by someone and put on Youtube legally?

That one still pops into my mind when I see a Midget race. I never heard anything about it afterward, and I've often wondered how he (Mack McClelland) came out of that crash.

Kris Krohn,

I have wondered about that for a long time. Pat Patterson bought my shot of the Kruseman midget flipping 14 times. Donnie Schatz flip and fire at the Gold Cup and many more are all over the world now.

If I remember Mack had a badly broken arm,and it took some time to heal.I think he tried to run once after that.It was one of those crashes on pavement that just was unbelievable to have survived.A true testament to the roll cage saving the drivers life.

Kris, no, everything on TV is not legal to post on YouTube, yet it will end up there eventually. You can report the copyright violation to YouTube and it can be removed if you have the proof to back up the claim. I've seen the DMCA notices work pretty fast. Here's a link to their DMCA policy and copyright complaint form: http://www.youtube.com/t/dmca_policy

You could also start by contacting the user that posted the video.

I was always a Drinan fan on the Thunder series on ESPN, He had the muchkin car for a while and it seemed like he was always under scrutiny for his innovations that he would bring to the track. They did a article on Mac McClellan in Open Wheel a while after his crash at IRP, there was a photo of him holding his arms up showing his scars, that race pretty much severed his arm from the impacts between the pavement and the roll cage.

OMG I dont remember seeing that one, I could do without the amped up AC/DC licks, It just doesnt fit the insanity, wow,Im glad I have my restraints sewn in ,and in the correct location! just another reason I like wings too, ya , ever notice drivers walking around with thier restraints pulled up over the elbow ,I hope they pull them down when belting in, if not, Cmon guys that not helping you, move them down on the fore arm check your wheel /arms for clearance wear them correctly and you can still hug family and friends after the race!

I've never seen either of those two videos. Both horrifying. One has to wonder what the heck it feels like to be strapped in during that violence. I'm not minimizing winged sprint car accidents, or winged midgets, which are a rarity in most parts of the country, but it sure helps to have both that front wing and especially the top wing in those situations. The human body is indeed a marvel of science but there comes a point when the body can't handle the disasster and we know what happens. My dad always talked about a driver from Minot,ND, Bob Lillegard (spelling?) who I guess in the 60s or 70s, before drivers, at least Minot sprint car drivers, did not wear arm/wrist bungee ?? straps to keep arms inside cockpit if they were knocked unconscious. Lillegard, like many many other drivers of that era, was knocked out, arms flew out, roll bar hits arm and the resulting amputation of arm.

i'm not familiar with all that stuff.

But I would like to say - great footage man.

I get that stuff gettin out like that is money lost - but then again - I really like seeing the videos on youtube. just highlights and stuff. I think it should always be that way - just give a good sample and maybe throw a full one out there every now and then.

Whereas I really like seeing the action for free - I have to admit its not the way it should be for those filming. By all rights if people want to see it they should order/buy the whole taping.

I need to get better at saving money - because there are a lot of shows i would like to buy from Thriller Photo and Productions. I really like that he puts highlight vids up as well - but the best shows I saw last year he was there taping and does great work. And by all rights in the long offseason - should just buy those vids and enjoy.

yes that paragraph above was kind of a shameless plug lol. I always liked High Vista as well. Would like to check out some of his non wing Indiana tapings.
