I know he's a tough ole' bird, but I have to wonder if Steve would win more races if he used a full containment seat?
The objective of these seats is to keep the driver safe, but the added benefit is they don't give (much) allowing the driver to "stay on top of the wheel."
These cars are faster and pull a lot more G's than they did 20 years ago. It's physical in there. There are 20 year olds that get winded in them, let alone a 50 some guy. If you've noticed, almost all the outlaws and probably half or more of the sprints in the country run full containment seats.
I'm guessing since Steve is a little bigger, maybe he has trouble getting in a FCS, or he doesn't want the added weight. Or maybe he's just not comfy in one. Anybody ever ask him?

I hear what your saying, and the cars are faster than they were 20 years ago....but there not any faster than they were after the weight rule, and he's got a couple WoO Championships since then. I don't race sprint cars or anything on dirt, but I am a licensed SCCA member and competitor...if your not comfortable in the car, your wasting your time....

bottom line, its all about being comfortable.....alot of the "old school" guys still on the tour dont run them. i have tried to talk the wild child into running one and he just isnt as comfortable in them. i know of a few guys the same way, including steve.....and like LatshPA said, if you arent comfortable, dont waste your time showing up.

You ever stop and think maybe thats why Steve has won so many races? You have got to feel comfortable in the car, period. I'm sure if he thought he could have won more races sitting on an egg crate he would have done that a long time ago. The WoO have a weight rule, 1375 lbs. with driver, so I doubt he needs to worry about an extra 30 lbs. of seat weight. there is something to the younger drivers having a FCS and that is they start out their career in one so yeah I guess they would be a little more use to it. Also there's not too many guys still racing that have as much or more experience than Steve, and sometimes that alone is worth a few wins.
Incase you havn't noticed Steve isn't just "some guy".
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

hey genious its called safety,, just because he hasnt been seriously hurt or worse doesnt mean it wont happen,,, earnhardt thought a cheap seat loose belts and an open face helmet was comfortable also

I think G was saying maybe Kinser would be better at the end of a race now that he is older if he had more seat support. Right G? I think Throttle ........never mind.

I don't think it's an old style seat but a different style of seat. Randy Lajoi was selling safety seats a few years back with different attachments to suit a particular driver.
I remember a long time ago there was a race where there were so many rocks in the track, the Woo made it mandatory to put on a rock screen. If I remember correctly, Steve was against them and still is.

I would think Kinser can hold himself up in the seat as good as anybody. Hes a pretty tough ol guy.
