Another change of pace photo I took at the 1981 Indy 500.

4 time Indy 500 winner, Daytona 500 winner, 24 Hours of LeMans winner and uncounted dirt track wins in a midget, sprint and champ car.... the one and only A.J. Foyt

Was there anything funnier than watching ABC and seeing Chris Economaki chase down A.J. for a comment after he went out of a race. There were no 7 second recording delays in those days and one would always wince when A.J. opened his mouth.

Great Picture!!

I wonder if maybe Jason Meyers and A.J. would be interested in joining up to do a Paint scheme of one of his cars that won the 500 like TSR and Donny did with the Mario Andretti car last year at the Nats?

If so I'd imagine it would be a sweet looking ride opposed to that eye swore that Donny drove last year! (IMOP)

Can there be any doubt that AJ Foyt was very simply the greatest race car driver that ever lived? Everything & I mean EVERYTHING he ever drove he won in! If he had decided to drive in Formula One I have no doubt he would have won the World Driving Championship too. But, in typical AJ Foyt style, he explained the reason he never attempted that feat as well. He simply said he didn't like european food & so had no desire to spend a racing season there eating food he didn't like.

He did it HIS way & that way was absolutely incredible!!

That would be awesome if they did it. I know Id buy a shirt and diecast if they made that happen no matter how bad the car looked. Hopefully it would look good though lol. Stewart needs to run a AJ tribute scheme in cup too though

Please DO NOT compare JM to AJ. AJ was and still is one bad ass mo fo and let's just leave it at that. JM should have to pay for the use of the 14 - SMOKE deserves it. Period - end of story.

I agree with all of that. The car would be great whoever did it I'm sure.

I would say that Mario Andretti would have a pretty good argument for that title, as he too won the Indy 500,Daytona500,had 4 Cart/Usac titles, won the 24 hours of Daytona, was second at the 24 hours of LeMans, and actually did win the World Driving Championship. Plus he is still the last American to win a F1 race.

Just to clarify I'm by NO means comparing Jason Meyers to A.J.Foyt, that would be just plain silly. I was just simply going by the number on the car thinking it would be cool to see a tribute car of some sort.

I agree with you on that. AJ is the reason Im a race fan. I wish Smoke would have used the #14 or bought it or whatever. Unfortunately since that hasnt happened Id still like to see a tribute to AJ no matter who the driver or owner of the car is. SInce Smoke sometimes runs a sprint with the 14 on it maybe he could still do a tribute scheme. Id like to see it based on the Sheraton Thompson or Bowes schemes he ran in the 500
