I plan to run too, as soon as I get more info! Is USAC hiding something? Why didn't we have a say in this?

I'm sure Oakhurst remembers back when SCRA split from the Bandits too. I really feel like we are in the dark about this. What will membership fees be and I have heard rumors about an entry fee for each race. I already see in the rules that we have to run those stupid suitcase mufflers again. Dammit!

I haven't seen the rules for you guys yet, but if you do have to run those mufflers, its because there are "pockets" that have to be stuffed. frown

The rules are here http://www.racesantamariaspeedway.com/ but there are some massive holes in the engine department that can and will be exploited if they are not addressed soon. I would like to pull up there and run a few shows but I will wait to see what comes out of this before I commit.

Matt & John (KOP),

I wouldn't worry too much about the name in the title of this series. This is Chris Kearns' baby. These are not outsiders from back east coming in to screw things up. These are Chris' people, and the racers will have a say in what goes on. Everyone involved that i have talked to is very encouraged about this deal. USAC is bringing money and recognition to this series, which is a good thing for the Central Cal racers. Lets give Chris a little time to get this mess cleaned up that the people before him created, and i believe things will turn out well in the long run. Just look at what the man has done for Santa Maria Speedway in a very short amount of time.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents,

Oakhurst Mike

I am going to sit this one out. If you think that everyone will be on the same playing field because of a 1&7/8ths restrictor, I've got some beach front property in Lancaster to sell. First of all you will need to build a motor around the restrictor to go to the front. You are not going to beat a set of $6000. un restricted ASCS cylinder heads. Those are the rules. (Dam I hate rules.) Your 360 cid from last year will be all wrong for the restrictor. Intake valves too big, exhaust valves too small, wrong camshaft and a few degrees to up the combustion wouldn't hurt. The USAC is in name only. Let alone the fact that each track will most likely interpet the same rule book differently. (a four headed monster is born). Nevertheless good luck to all. Ray Stansberry

Your right Brian...as it stands ,you can run ASCS heads with down nozzels..and any size injectors with the ASCS heads.Run any other head and your restricted to 1 7/8 stacks...you'll have two cars sitting in the pits, side by side ,one capable of producing close to 700 hp the other restricted down to about 600hp..sombody needs to address this. By the way ,I believe the 1 7/8 restrictors deal came from USACS old rule book..when 410's were allowed to run 360 races-they resticted the 410's that hard.Do you have to join USAC?Will there be $25 pill pick?Transponders? The good thing is..no reason not to have all those Ford/Mopar there now...yah -sure..

I just spoke to Peter Murphy (for another story I'm working on) and he said he's going to be running the USAC West Coast Sprints series this season.

Grady: "Google" a product called "Nada-Chair". I would get low back pain every time I sat in a bleacher with no back for anything near a long period of time. I bought one of these things and my back pain is gone. Didn't hurt once even at the Chili Bowl. I actually didn't need it Saturday because I was on the edge of my seat almost the whole time anyway. But check this Nada-Chair out. It really works and is far more comfortable than I expected it to be.

So ya'll are tellin me, that he who has the "most power" wins every weekend? Interesting! You know, I think it is probably a good idea to keep others away from the West Coast 360 racing, the people that can't run since they don't have gaskets or ASCS heads. Probably best to keep it a local racing club, no one needs bigger car counts.

P.S. Those three statements were all sarcastic, incase the morons in the crowd couldn't figure that out.

I dont know whose pockes your talking about, but I guarantee mine, nor USAC's are not getting stuffed full of anything except for Asprin. I went back to the 180 muffler rule for several reasons.

1) Even though I am on private property and have been pretty lucky with the neighbors, Tulare and Hanford are Fairgrounds. Both recieve alot of heat from the State about noise. Also Bakersfield has to be very strict.

2) Everyone I talked to has them anyways

3) All Ventura cars have them

When I decided to do this, I asked Extreme Mufflers if they would give a discount to our racers. They agreed, so everyone who joins USAC West Coast 360's will recieve a $50 certificate towards Extreme. (There is about $500 in Certificates in the Membership package, from other companies that believe in what we are doing) I also made a deal with Extreme and Cory Kruseman to sell used sets for $150 a set. I also bought 2 sets of headers and mufflers, so that if someone shows up and didnt know the rule, I can rent them to them. As a Promoter that is all I can do after making a rule change.

Ray, do you really believe the gaskets had everyone on an even playing field? Do you think any rule will put racers on an even playing field? I may be new to Sprint Cars, but I am smart enough to realize that that the gasket is a restrictor, just like an 1 7/8 stack restrictor. The difference is, the gasket is WAY easier to cheat-up

You are 100% backwards. The restrictor will be more even. I will be able to tell if everyone has a 1 7/8 restrictor. It is almost impossible to tell if everyone has the same gasket! Are you telling me guys will build motors around the 1 7/8 restrictor, but they didnt build their motors around the ASCS gasket?

Chris...I went to a lot of your races last year...Great improvement.....On this muffler thing though I have a question.....Why are you going after the Sprint cars and not the other classes????...Those imca mods and late models are way more louder than any of the sprint cars that ran last year..Sitting in the stands I know this for a fact..If noise is really an issue then I suggest to make the same DB rule for all of your classes...That way it helps your noise issue and makes it fair for everyone...
