Great news. Skagit joined the majority of the 410 tracks & series with using Goodyears for 2010. All we need now is for Chico and GSC to get on board.

I can hear the locals now ..... can't go to Dirt Cup now due to the tires!

Time for NorCal to get on board and join the rest of the country!

Skagit Speedway has entered into a multiyear agreement with Goodyear to supply the racing tires for all three sprint divisions beginning in 2010. "Goodyear presented a solid business package that will benefit the racers and the speedway for the next several years," commented track owner Steve Beitler, "We have had a great relationship with Hoosier Tires for the past eight years, I have no problems with the quality or service from Hoosier Tires. This was a business decision that needed to be made. It is important to me that we take care of our racers and continue to upgrade the facility without raising prices to our competitors or fans. The Goodyear program allows us to move forward with our future plans."

Goodyear is currently in production of tires for the spring races in Florida. We will have tires available in the northwest in March.

Skagit Speedway wishes to send a sincere 'Thank You' to Rick Gearhardt and Neal Cowman at Hoosier Tire for the great support you have given us over the years!

I personally think it was a smarter move for the norcal tracks to not switch to goodyear. There are too many unknowns as far as quality of tire, tire wear and production availability. Not only did they honor a company that has been there but also are waiting and seeing if goodyear will be able to hold up to all the promises they have made all these tracks and series around the country, from money to tires.

Also most of these tracks have signed multiyear deals, so what happens if shit hits the fan? They are stuck with goodyears for the duration.

I am not sure why going to Goodyear's is a good thing for racing. All it means is that you write the check to someone else. Part of the problem of the problem is that there is no competition in these lock out deals and the prices go up. If the association would set a compound for all manufactures to build to spec or hell even go to an open tire and run what you brung, at least we wouldnt be playing monopoly.

This stuff happens in goverment and we all complain, illegal, unfair, blah, blah, but how could it be good for racing?

I realize that tires for sprint cars are a minimal part of the portfolio for both Goodyear and Hoosier, and nothing will change as long as each organization wants to go thier own direction. But on the other hand ASCS seems to get bigger each year.

Richard....

Not to be a smart aleck, but can you prove that Goodyear bailed out the WoO, or is this a rumor/story that you heard from someone?

And it appears to me that NorCal is now an "island", so I don't see where running Hoosiers will benefit the NorCal teams. The teams that want to race with the WoO will do just that, memberships and tire costs notwithstanding. But the knowledge curve of teams in NorCal will be behind most of the rest of the sprint car world at the Dirt Cup or the Gold Cup since they do not usually run Goodyears tires.

Kind of like when the NARC teams were mandated to run McCreary tires and then teams that went to Knoxville and tried to level the playing field by buying Goodyears back in the '90's........

At the end, who cares? Teams will buy tires to compete, or they won't. Kind of like BK staying away from the Calistoga WoO show a few years back because of tire costs....and they're a team that's never had a real budget problem.......
