I always understood that a provisional was for a driver who didn't make the show thru the racing format. Sammy didn't even run his "C"! Don't need you Sammy backers to start bashing...I understand what he did Sat nite & basically for his whole career. You have to give the guy props for what he's done...pretty impressive stats. All I'm questionning is the way he got there. Think about it...if he had run the 2 races he had on the agenda.....he could have moved up & not had to start on the tail (since he's that good) of the A. Right?

The winner from the previous year is guaranteed a spot in the "A". He can choose before hand to scratch and start the "A" tailback, or run the gamut and try to start the "A" as far forward as 13th.
The way I look at it is that by not running the "C", he allowed another driver to transfer that ordinarily would have been out...

Sammy isn't a fool. yes he could have improved his starting position, but on the other hand he knew what the car could do. IMO why risk the car and possible a-main starting spot, and risk wrecking the car. take the guaranteed start and let the cards lie where they may. some people may not agree with me or what he did but Sammy gave one heck of a show on Saturday night

Agreed...Most of the people I have seen that used the "champion's provisional" (most recently McCreadie) would go out in their feature for a few laps as a "shake down" and then pull in. There is no need to risk a weekend ending crash when you are insured a spot.

So he goes out for the C-main and makes one lap and pulls in. I've seen this done many times at races that give a provisional and there's really no point to do this. I would have just scratched and joined the tail of the A also.

I believe "the Demon" took a provisional last year too.

Smart driver, smart crew chief, why risk your car in the C when you dont have to? The way Sammy's luck was going in his preliminary night it was best he didnt run the C main and it started off in the A-main too. 2 wrecks early on in the race and then to finish 3rd - awesome driver!
Next year, you will see another Swindell take the provisional if he doesnt make it in the A-Main from his preliminary night.
Sammy is one of the smartest drivers out there. Whether you like him or not, he puts on a show for all of his fans and nonfans. The older he gets the more I want him to win!
Kevin has his dad's talent, as time goes by, Kevin will be just as great as his dad.
I was never a Swindell fan, but I must say I'm pulling for both of them because this is what sprint cars, midgets, dirt track racing needs... great talent on the track whether you like them or not.
Good Luck both Swindells in 2010!

Sammy did come out to hotlap with the C main group for a shakedown/track check - then as I expected took the defending champ option and hotlapped with the A group ... don't blame him a bit - why risk tearing up your car in a fustercluck mess that happens in nearly every race in the tight quarters of the Bowl ... very smart move.

Sammy was involved in two wrecks already that week that weren't his fault. The Champions race on monday, and while leading his qualifying A main on thursday night.

I agree that Sammy did the right thing taking the spot. OK why then did he have to cry about all of the slow cars that started in front of him ? He is the master of the Chili bowl but he lacks respect for midget racing and his fellow drivers. If my son had won , I would have shown a lot more excitment for him. I would not have talked about my problems getting through the field . You could not have got me to stop talking about my boy. Great drive Sammy.

Remember I said he was good and that he was the master of the Chili Bowl but I also believe that at times he acts like the South end of a North bound mule. I guess if you are good enough thats OK .

I don't care how fast he is or how smart he is. I believe if the "chili bowl" wants to give out a provisional it should only be given after the fact the car has not made it to the A main. I don't even like anyone being able to use a provy but @ least make them attempt to transfer. What if Sammy didn't get tangled in 2 crashes and he won Saturday? Hell he might as well come back next year and save the car until Saturday's A. Why risk tearin it up on a qualifier night? P.S. Nice black eye Sam
do it in the dirt

How many interviews have you heard Sammy do? Sounds like SSDD from Sammy.
