One guy did this ranking, but really, I don't have a problem with the listing. They probably all deserve to be in there somewhere, while others probably could easily be in that top ten also, which would be bumping, so to each his own.

Need to quote John McEnroe :You cannot be serious. This guy needs to get out of the office and see some races. Has he heard of Dave Darland,Jon Stanbrough,Bryan Clausen just to throw a few more names in the hat.

Your right did not see WINGED in the story.Just wish it was like it use to be when the WoO first started left it up to the promotors on either wing or non-wing.

Did you know that with the help of Kevin Montgomery, Ron Shuman and others, that here in Arizona we have the only regional group with ASCA that runs without wings, and we're darn proud of it too. We also still have our original non wing 360 group, the Arizona Sprint Car Association.

Like you , at first I was thinking where's Darland etc, but I looked backed and saw it was just for the winged driver.

how come winged drivers are so much better. i mean i've seen winged guys take the wing off and do well in USAC. I've never seen a non-wing guy put on a wing and do well, even in the IRA.

oh oh, here we go!

for those in the back row of the class who need glasses:

paragraph 2: The ten-year span from 2000-2009 gave us a variety of tire, wing, engine and weight rules.

You don't have to read beyond the first sentence to see what the article is about....the premier division. These wingless & 360 guys need their own forum.

Amazing....

The title of the thread clearly states "....decade's best WINGED 410 sprint car drivers...." and some folks are complaining about the exclusion of 360 and non-wingers.....

Some folks will complain about nothing......or they missed the point of the article........

Yes the speed they can carry thru the turns are awesome, but give me some passing and NOT follow the leader crap.Good case Oskaloosa last year. The wing boys was locked down all winners came from the front row .Not 1 pass for the lead in all the races.Next nite the wingless boys had the crowd going wild 4 wide to the line in a heat and Hockett,Darland going at it in the feature.I actually left the first nite after the b-main went back to the motel could not take anymore parades.Plenty of people was also heading out also bitching about the races. Also i seem to seen a certain #51 pack up after quals during a USAC race in PA couple years back.Don't think he was to comfortable with out the crutch and did not dig the car laying over on the R/R.By the way give props to the wing boys that ran Non-Wing at Osky but not to many made the feature.

Wingless stuff is pretty much the way to go now because of all the limits and regulations on the 410 stuff. As soon as everyone can run wide open it becomes a pointless parade. This is why NAPCAR plate "racing" is so repulsive. As good as the current heavier cars, wings, tires etc handle and hook, we need about 200 more HP under the hood so the true talents can make a difference again behind the wheel again. The wingless stuff is cool because there is a HP surplus. Unlike some "experts" think, a slick surface is the not the real answer to making the winged shows better. Brute horsepower and speed with a wing is what makes it superior to wingless stuff. If they're going to continue to regulate and restrict everything except the massive right rear tire, the wings are going to have to go to keep things interesting.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

I'm just glad to see that someone at SPEED actually recognizes winged sprint car racing.

I've seen plenty of nonwing parades in Indiana and Ohio. Most nonwing drivers are just scared shitless to get in a winged car. They use the excuse it takes away from the driver. I thought it was a good joke and laughed about it.

Big fish do you know this so called race expert ? Most non-wing cars are just that Non-wing only .

Do not see wing tabs on too many of them.Kidd not sure how many races you attend but think back when Steve Kinser,Sammy Swindell,Doug Wolfgang,Danny Smith all started racing in the 70s they ran mostly Non-Wing back then.

That was not a "rhetorical statement", because what you said didn't need one. I just stated a fact!
