BK took the lead on lap 14. The race was yellow/checkered due to to many yellows and 1 tow truck on lap 23.

thanks to the sprint teams and fans who came out to support the opening night of the series at ocean speedway. hopefully the track will learn from tonight and have more support vehicles on site to manage the sprints in the future. one tow truck is not enough for any race and two push trucks for 22-23 sprinters definetly won't work. it just took far too long to clean up some realitively minor incidents and time had to be called on the sprint main. for the most part all the teams seemed to have had a good time. ocean is a fun little track and hopefully this can turn into a good little series.

Are they still charging an entry fee to the push trucks?

Interesting. Great job making the track better than in the past, but I can't believe push trucks are charged to get in.
Good luck this season.

ocean speedway if in fact this is true it would be wise to reconsider your policy. the sprints rely on push trucks to keep the show moving along. this was VERY apparent fri night with the lack of push vehicles. the racers were doing their part to speed the show up by being ready and in the staging area when required. push and tow vehicles are a MUST to speed along any racing program. if you would come up with a program to allow maybe two people per truck to sign in at no charge and find out just how many vehicles are needed to run the show things would run smoother. you could set a limit on push vehicles allowed in for no charge if you wanted. then when the number was reached cut off the free passes. you could designate areas for the push trucks to be in so teams would know where to find them to fire off the sprints to warm engines ect. and to keep the trucks from just wandering all over the place. also tell the drivers that if they don't be responsive and prompt they don't get in for free any more. we all want this sprint series to be successful and good support vehicles are a must. i know having to push cars is not something you have had to do much lately at the track since most classes were self starting, but to keep fans and teams from becoming frustrated things need to improve. aside from that the races were great. i think most teams had fun and i really did not hear any other complaints. maybe those of you out there that would like to see the show move along faster could contact the track and voice your opinions on this. www. oceanspeedway.com

While I agree with you I don't think they have any intention of changing things. The class will dry up and the sprints will drop off altogether there. Let's face it. Ocean is a long way from where most of the sprint action is. Not many push trucks are going to want to make the haul anyway. Then if you have to pay to get in. Same thing goes for media. Most media members I have talked to will not be attending any events at Ocean Speedway. To long a drive to have to pay to do their public relations for them.
On the other hand 10 push trucks with 2 people each and just 5 media people would be nearly $1000 at the gate. Of course a couple hundred people at the front gate that won't return because of the slow recovery time from reds and caustions is probably more. Combine that with sponsors lost because there are less people in the stands. And the list goes on.
Do people just set out and say "i's a promotor"? Or do they actually take a look at sucessfull promoters and try to make a model from them. Look at the Padgens' from crying out loud. They are not perfect by any means (well maybe robbie) but they are damn sucessful and probably the best in the west and in the top 5 in the country. Ask them how they handle push trucks at either track.
Or go ahead and do it your way and ax the sprints now before you give them a bad rep.

First of all I would like to thank ALL the Sprint Cars that support Ocean. " The Class will dry up and drop off" Its very apparent that this person posting does not know me. This class is here to stay-- check back with me in a few years. I agree Padgens does a good job BUT how was his first sprint car race 40 years ago...i am sure he had some bumps.. REMEMBER this was my FIRST day on the job with sprinters. Push trucks DONT get charged to get in as long as they push and dont park for the night. This will never be a problem at Ocean again I have around 100 trucks that I can make push vech out of...This will become one of the best sprint tracks by 2008. One year ago NOBODY would of said that we would have 2000 people and 110 cars at the track in March of 07?????We will take from last night and build for the next race. Thanks to BK and Rick Wright for ALL their help to make Ocean a better place to race...

Thanks to JohnP and Wright One for bringing sprint cars back to
close to the SJ Area. Since SJ and Baylands closed, those of us
in the Santa Clara Valley have had quite a drive if we want to see some
sprints (Antioch not withstanding). Chico and Placerville are
great places to see races, but they don't have to be the center of the
sprint car universe here in NorCal. I'll plunk down my dollars at
the front gate to support you guys as long as you stay committed to the
class and learn from the mistakes that are bound to happen.
Thanks again...Finally some hope for us SJ-types :-)

If you are not charging push trucks to get in then you have someone at the back gate giving erroneous information. Your right I don't necessarily know although we have talked before and I do have some idea of the type of person you are. That makes it harder to understand why the track has this kind of policy. Maybe you have someone giving out bad information. I have heard it from to many people though to beleive no one has been told that.
Simply turning over 100 trucks into push trucks for the night does not get you anyone that knows what they are doing either. A couple of years ago in Fernley they had plenty of people ready to push but not so many that knew what to do with a sprint car. Experience will help move things along as much as the cars being ready to go when their called.
I do know you care about sprint car racing and this was more or less the response that I hoped you would give. I am glad you are taking this as a learning experience. I know Rick Wright has put alot into trying to make of go of this series. It would suck if it fell through for a few hundred dollars at the back gate.
Good luck to you and Ocean Speedway!!

For Gods sake and the well being of everyone in Northern California that enjoys Sprint Cars, kudos to everyone at Ocean Speedway for a Grand Opening event, and I was really Happy that one of the states Best Ever drivers BK brought home the victory. It would have looked kind of sketchy if the record books had Orville Burke winning the first one!!!!!!!!! LMAO

Why would Orville Burke winning one look 'sketchy'?
They run the race to determine the winner, not determine the winner and then run the race, right?

glad to see john p. fired up and ready to rumble. now that we have your attention let me thank you for the show you put on , for posting the results here for all to see, and for showing everyone you have what it takes to make racing at ocean great for years to come for ALL who chose to take part. your responce and attention to the fans will not be lost or go without reward. as i said before the ONLY complaint i heard about the show from the teams was the push truck deal. and we know that is not a difficult problem to fix. i am sure you will be willing to help ANYONE who is willing to come and help you put on your show and report on the event. watsonville has always been a place the sprints love to run at. "build it and they will come." i am sure any media people who would like to help promote and report on the events there would be welcomed by you if they took the time to contact you and worked something out. you are not the type of person to hold out for a realitivly small amount of money at the back gate to endanger the lose of cars or fans. thank you again for your efforts and your interaction with the fans here.
