A shot I took of Gary Patterson in the Jack Gordon 1c at the 1982 Knoxville Nationals. Few drivers had and still have a following like "The Preacher".

He was one of those drivers that when it was time for his time trial that people in the stands would turn to their friends and say... "Now we will find out how fast the track is tonight"

Looks like a Chuck Delu car.

Also, he is running the wing fairly flat compared to now, almost a 40-45° angle at Knoxville. The way the wings are run today remind me of a speed brake used on the carrier type aircraft I worked on in the Navy.

With the A7s I worked on, the speed brake deployed from the belly of the plane and the pilots said it almost stands the aircraft on it's nose.

From what I understand with the new wing rule, the car behind the car in front is have problems keeping the front wheels on the ground. So the wing is acting like a speed brake too.

I'd guess it's a J&J frame. Look at the front bumper. Regardless,I'll bet the floorpan in it has dents downward from the gas pedal...Smile Thanks for posting Lee. Your old shots are way cool.

Take Care

Chuck delu there is a name i have not heard in about twenty years. Use to build silver crown cars and sprints i think. The hood looks like a stanton.
