You weren't alone in turn 4... I was there too LOL.
The racing was pretty good IMO. Dover was fast... heck, a lot of people looked fast at times. Baldaccini looked incredible for a few moments & corners. Unfortunately it took more than a great half lap to win it.
Reworking the track a la Chili Bowl was a first for me at the Bowl. I've seen a lot of daytime races there and you can't say they didn't try really hard to make the most of the track. They did.
Hererra and Swindell moving through the field was pretty cool to watch.
Swindell's front bumper was smashed in... saw that in the pits afterwards. I figured that would shock no one but I didn't catch when it happened. Chrome horn!
Shane Stewart's front wing stands collapsing was something I wanted to mention. He was really fast with that problem... you can't help but think he would have been in the mix for the lead if it was operating as it was intended. I've never been a fan of the "non-fixed" front wing mounts; I can see the issue happening more than it does. Shane must have had a handful with that car... and drove the wheels off it.
I've whined on multiple forums about bigger tailtanks... and low and behold if it didn't appear to bite a few people yesterday. That was a LOOOONG feature with a lot of extra yellow/red laps. Brown & Hafertepe appeared to run out... Wright and a couple of others made a mad dash to the scales as soon as the checkered flew... I would guess so they wouldn't burn off anymore fuel and lose that valuable minimum weight.
Listening to Wayne Johnson in the pits continues to be one of my favorite pitside activities. He flat out tells it like it is. I had to go see the new wing (read about it in his weekly Wed column)... definitely looks like a high downforce wing not suitable for the big tracks. There was a day when the WoO had a couple of different wings... high downforce/medium/low. The ASCS-legal dish wing sticks the cars... and as Wayne mentioned... only a couple of cars in the ASCS are making the flat top work (Bruce, Jr.). Wayne added some pitside modifications to lessen the wickerbill effect on the side panels that he said made it grab less air and become more stable. DEFINITELY go talk to Wayne given the chance.
It was a long day... and once again the racers appeared to be late for something when the checkered flag fell. I recall people not being in such a hurry in the past to hit the pay window and go down the road. Comparing apples to apples... that was the latest I've ever been at the Bowl on a Sunday night that I can recall. Maybe with the pits being a good distance away from the stands... less people come by. I don't know. I simply wish the fans went through the pits to meet drivers and the teams stuck around for it like it used to be.
