VENTURA RACEWAY EVENT BENEFITS ASPIRANET VENTURA COUNTY
by Lee Elder

VENTURA, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2009) – Saturday, is Aspiranet Day at Ventura Raceway as the track participates in a benefit for Aspiranet Ventura County, a foster child and family service.

Discount coupons for admission to the Oct. 17 races at the Raceway can be had through Domino’s Pizza, Jersey Mike’s Subs, United Rentals, Chick-fil-A and Automotive Racing Products. For every coupon submitted at the track Saturday the Raceway will donate $2 to Aspiranet.

In a special fundraiser, local businesses making donations to Aspiranet have earned a berth in a special kart race Saturday night.

“Participating in this special event to benefit foster children and families is huge and we hope it will bring increased awareness of Aspiranet and the families it serves,” said Jim Naylor, track operator of Ventura Raceway. “Any time we can help, and especially with children, we will. It is a huge opportunity for us to give back, and we are very honored to help.”

Saturday’s racing card includes the Ventura Racing Association Sprint Cars, Sport Compacts, USAC Western Midgets, USAC Ford Focus Midgets and USAC Junior Focus Midgets. The 2009 VRA Sprint Car championship could be determined by the end of the main event.

Ventura Raceway is located at the Ventura County Fairground. Spectator gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the traditional flag salute is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Defending Sprint Car champion Kevin Kierce can win his second straight title and his third overall if he finishes seventh or better in the feature Saturday, even if Kierce scores no points in his heat race. Camarillo’s Brent Underwood can clinch the Sport Compact Rear Wheel Drive title by finishing fourth or better in the feature race, regardless of his heat race outcome.

More information about Ventura Raceway is available at www.venturaraceway.com. More information about Aspiranet is available at www.aspiranet.org.

Raceway notes: The drivers in the special Aspiranet kart race attended a Cory Kruseman Driving School session Monday…The drivers (and their sponsors) are Sam Hishmeh (Domino’s Pizza), Dan Burrell (Jersey Mike’s Subs), Edward Baeza (United Rentals), Craig Goettsche (Chick-fil-A of Oxnard) and Chris Raschke (Automotive Racing Products).

OK. Just for fun.

I'm picking Dan Burrell (Jersey Mike’s Subs) to be the winner of the race.

Be sure to let each business know that you saw them at the Aspiranet benefit kart race. (after the race, of course). lol.

Cover your beer, the race is on!

Wondering why Lee Elders press release is not on the VRA site anywhere? Think he would post it there or on VRAFAN.COM after all he is the track PR man.

Yep I realize that. Just wondering why it isn't on the VRA or VRAFAN.com sites being a fund raiser for good cause and all. Lee should post it there also. Maybe it is and my computer is blind LOL.

It is a great benefit - maybe copy and paste to the VRA forum. My computer comes home late - blind drunk sometimes. Smile
