Mason Moore heads for Civil War Series event in Petaluma following 13th place finish in b-main at 56th Gold Cup Race of Champions

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – September 16, 2009…As he continues to get back into the racing groove Princeton, CA's Mason Moore will travel to the Petaluma Speedway this Saturday night after making the b-main at the Gold Cup Race of Champions for the first time in his career this past weekend at the Silver Dollar Speedway.

The 56th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions marked Moore's fourth weekend of racing back since getting injured on May 23 and although wanting a little higher finish he was still able to accomplish a goal of getting into the b-main for the first time. "Going into the Gold Cup I definitely wanted to get in the b-main this season so I'm happy we could at least do that," Moore said. "I'm still trying to get my endurance and everything back so it was fun to be able to race with all those guys on Saturday night because it was a pretty stout b-main."

The $50,000 to win World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series sanctioned event saw Moore take part in the Friday qualifier and he started off the evening by timing-in 18th fastest overall, which missed the heat race inversion by just two spots. It then put "Primetime" in the third row for his heat race and he would run a solid 10 laps to tally fifth at the checkered and transfer into the main event. Starting 18th in the 30-lap contest Moore drove a solid and consistent race to complete all of the laps and record a 14th place finish at the checkered flag aboard the Friends & Family Racing, Inventory Sales Co, Wiley X Eyewear No. x1 sprinter.

With a total of 76 cars taking part in the two prelim nights Moore came back on Saturday sitting 34th in the overall Gold Cup standings, which put him on the outside of the sixth row in the b-main. The 20-lap event saw the Princeton racer battle his way up into the top-10, until a spin in the second corner forced him to restart at the rear where he went on to bring home a 13th place result at the conclusion. "Just being able to run the Gold Cup is a great thing and I really can't wait till next year," Moore said. "I have a lot of confidence that if I can get another full year under my belt then we can have a great chance to get into the A-main next season."

With the 410 winged sprint car season done in Northern California the focus is shifted back to the 360 scene and this Saturday night will find Moore and the F&F Racing team making the tow to the Petaluma Speedway for the penultimate weekend of racing with the California Sprint Car Civil War Series. The event this weekend will also mark the one year anniversary of the 18 year-old's first outing in the No. x1 machine last year, where he qualified fifth fastest and scored fifth in the feature at the always sticky 3/8 mile clay oval.

"Primetime" has also made one Civil War Series start at the Petaluma Speedway this season and that night saw him time-in second fastest out of 38 entrants and run seventh in the main event on April 11. "I've felt really comfortable at Petaluma both times I've ran there with Steve Tuccelli and Alan Bradway so I'm definitely looking forward to going back there on Saturday," Moore commented. "We're hoping for a good solid night to try and get some momentum rolling as the season comes to an end with some big shows coming up."
